I’m from Western NY and I’d have to agree with you, except to say they are probably from the NYC area or Long Island.
I’d also throw New Jersey onto the list as well.

This.

They are probably liberals, too.

nope, entitled white waspy conservatives, natch!

He just got up and moved, what a looser I also shamed him while he walked away. I was at lunch and was using my chair and planned to take a nap after lunch. He felt entitled to my chair. NO, just NO. Its like when you go to Paris and you are waiting for the line at the Eiffel Tower, you have to get up early to get what you want (to be 1st in line), that’s what you have to do when you are from a city you have to deal with all sorts of people. Yeah, guess where I’m from.

And ... you stay in line for the Eiffel Tower, not just leave a towel to wait there in line for you?

+1 And after you leave the Eiffel Tower, to go out somewhere else for lunch for example, do you think you come back later and just skip the line and waltz back up the stairs/lift in front of everyone else, just because you were one of the first ones to visit that day?

As my kids would say, you shuffle your feet, you lose your seat. So sad!

When they do finally show up they don’t stay for long and don’t really seem to enjoy themselves. Who are these pushy little people and how can they get that worked up whilst on vacation?

Have you asked a staff person to collect the abandoned stuff so that you can sit down? Or have you gathered it together and given it to a staff person saying that someone left it?

ha! yes this thread reminded me of the signs at Teaism asking people not to do this

So I am the one who complained to the management at the pool and they actually allowed me to take some seats because I documented that the people hadn't been there for 3 hours.
Try that? It resulted in a screaming match with some NY folks, but I stayed put in their former chairs and my time-stamped photos.

What’s weird about your story is that there was an open chair right next to the disputed one that you used to harass this man and you don’t seem to think that the easier answer was to take your stuff with to lunch and then to come back and use one of these already open chairs. Do you just enjoy pointless conflict?

If it's just a towel and no personal belongings, I have no problem to move it and sit on the chair. If somebody comes back, which is unlikely, I'll move to another chair with a towel. If they say something negative, I'll pretend I don't speak English.

Wait, this is not OK? I send my kids to sit down while I stand in line and order.

probably not in the shade. There is never enough shade at resort pools! If people are fighting over seats under umbrellas....order some more unbrellas, hotel!

If no one is there, I move their stuff. I figure, screw them.

This all sounds very stressful for what is supposed to be a vacation. I'll add it to the list of reasons not to vacation at resorts....

No, I think it's OK if people are actually sitting at the table. It's not ok if its just your coat or bag holding the table.
