Which school?

Same when DS was accepted ED to Grinnell. It was via portal and there was a fairly short timeframe to accept and send a deposit. After that was done, he started to get emails, etc.

This is a “natural consequences” situation. She misses something time-sensitive; she has to clean up the mess herself.

You have to let go, OP. The kid is an adult.

I would tell her she has to check by 6pm today or college is off the table for next year due to her own disinterest. She can take commenunity college classes if she does think academics will be in her future or she can start a vocational program if her interests are more geared that way, but you are not playing into the game anymore.

Consequences. You have to have consequences for a defiant child.

You’re dealing with a child that is not ready for college.....this is not normal behavior by any stretch of the imagination.

So the sooner you send a housing deposit, the better your dorm room. At least at the bigger schools.

Nothing. Her education. Her future. Her choice.

There are over 2,500 of us who have looked at this thread. We can help out OP if we all post the notification experience of our kids' schools. She should be able to get the info she needs for her daughter's specific application schools assuming they haven't changed their policies in the past few years. OR her daughter could just do what every other high school senior has to do and face the music of looking on the portals.

If she didn't get any emails, she wasn't admitted.

My daughter has been getting various emails from the schools she got into - e.g., congrats, admitted student visit, finaid.

That's what we thought last year, but it didn't pan out that way. We sent in our son's deposit as soon as he accepted, which was pretty much immediately after being notified of acceptance. We thought it would be a first-come, first-serve situation. Unfortunately, he was assigned his very last choice dorm. We were not happy with that system.

Soon to be empty nesters planning to move soon. Or recent or pending move, with summer house being more stable long-term. My guesses.

What if she deliberately removed herself from the email lists?

Ugh, then I guess she won't be going to college, right? Someone who can't bother to check their portal is probably not doing a great job of monitoring their emails either. She doesn't sound ready to go away to college. It's better to figure that out now than it would be thousands of dollars into a semester.

That wasn't our experience and DC went to a school with 30,000 undergrads. As long as you sent in your housing deposit by the deadline you were in the initial pool for housing. In fact DC missed an email so sent in his housing request towards the end of the normal period and got a good dowm. Obviously if you came off the waitlist and were after the normal process it would be a different story.

I think the bigger question is why your daughter is telling you she doesn't want to go to college. Talk to her about what's really going on.

OP what's the update? Did you drive over and check the mail yet? Don't leave us hanging!
