Daughter refuses to check her admissions portals, what to do?

She will eventually look at the portals. And she's already holding an early acceptance. Just not a college she's totally into is all. She'll be fine and come around. I am just curious is all about the emails.

And either way, I'll be at the other house on Thursday.

This post made me laugh. She is clearly just like her mother.

I realize you are traveling to the other house late this week, but not all schools send send snail mail acceptances or rejections. Once in your student's portal, each acceptance should lead you to your final tuition cost so you can compare various school.

One school accepted our son and gave him basically 30 days to accept their offer of admission. Once he accepted their offer they would mail out his acceptance letter. He did not wind up going with that school but the bottom line is - do not assume that snail mail will give you the complete picture.

She NEEDS to look at her portal. She might miss the boat on an offer if she doesn't. Plus, it's time to start thinking about scheduling orientation, choosing a dorm, etc.

I realize this is a very stressful/potentially depressing experience, and I feel for both of you, but I would look at this more as a general life skill she will need. This is just the first of many situations where she will need to face potential bad news, and she needs to learn how to deal with it.

Asking the guidance counselor is terrible advice. I can't imagine the impression this would make of both you and your daughter.

Sounds like this is the least of the problems your child has.

On social media, it seemed all the top 20 colleges posted pictures of admissions officers mailing boxes and boxes full of acceptance packages. I think those are sent automatically.

I'm confused about who is OP and who is not. One poster said the daughter had an early admission already in her back pocket, and another said the daughter only had received one waitlist offer.

Which one is it? Going forward, please identify yourself as OP.

Checking summer house mail by Thursday is only the 19th. I don't think there are any deadlines from decision day to 4/19. Most enrollment deposits and waitlist deadlines are 5/1 or later.

Got into a safety four months ago. Only RD app checked was a waitlist. Many unchecked portals.

They usually do mail out an acceptance packet. This one particular school offered summer admission and 30 days to accept their offer. At the time, I was like WTH?!? But I think that the school was simply accepting their 2nd or 3rd round picks and wanted a commitment or they would offer the spot to someone else.

They may not all handle it like this but it is enough to know that some do handle it like this. Look at the portal.

UVA was a lot easier to get into.

Well none of my three kids got any snail mail from the schools they were accepted to. But the bigger question is, OP are you talking about making an 8 hour round trip OR crowd sourcing questions about emails as workarounds for your daughter simply checking a portal? Am I missing something?

Op, you either care enough to force this or you don't. You sit down next to her and have her log in now, with you present. If you have any financial role in this decision you have the right to force the issue.
