8 hours of screaming on a flight

Most flights from Germany to the USA actually head north over UK and Ireland, then south via Canada. Only about 50% of the flight is actually over water. Here's the routing: http://www.gcmap.com/mapui?P=fra-ewr

He wasn't just screaming, but running around the aisle and climbing on seats and playing with the overhead

Was he screaming while climbing?

No he was quiet. His screams got worse because the mother tried to change behavior. This kid obviously has serious delays. And people are being very cruel to him and his parents. Flying obviously stressed the heck out of him.

I'm sure he was annoying to listen to, but I feel worse for the parents than the other passengers.

When a child has developmental delays and neurological issues to that degree, then preparations need to be made by consulting the family doctor, etc. OR not take the trip. Even if you think the passengers don't count, consider what the trip was like for the child. TRAUMATIC.

I agree.

+1 Sometimes you have to make the hard choices, like not traveling. And why are people just assuming he has SN? The article didn't indicate that at all, and the parents could've at least apologized to people.

I have flown with my young children. I remember on this one flight, a toddler was screaming and my DD (18 mo at the time) was not feeling well and was trying to sleep. The parents saw me holding her and trying to get her sleep, and they mouthed to me "I'm so sorry".

You have no idea what this kid can process. Telling him off would have only heightened his anxiety. His mother trying to correct him was setting him off. Please don't do this IRL. You'll make a hard situation worse.

Then they need to understand that their family cannot take an 8 hour plane trip. They aren't the only family to have to come to that realization. Age, illness, finances---all sorts of reasons that people can't fly for that length of time.

+1

The parents are 100% at fault for not taking steps to prevent this.
They should never fly with a child who is uncontrollable.
Were all the passengers complaining and protesting?

+2 I have no sympathy. if you can't control your kid, don't fly. Airlines need to start fining passengers who can't behave.

Ugh, how awful for everyone. But I see people wasted no time with their “I would never.” A little compassion goes a long way.

Oh well. I feel more bad for the passengers who had to listen to that shit.

Agree. I have ZERO sympathy for the mom who just sat on her butt. I feel sorry for the poor people who had to sit through that and the airline employees. I can't believe people are defending this family.

I have a lot of compassion...for the poor people on the flight and the airline employees.

The family should have to pay some sort of partial refund to every person on the plane.

+100.

+200. I would have lost my shit. If you can't control your animal, don't bring them on a plane.

This happened in august, but the guy who took the footage is just releasing it now. Is he trying to get followers? He is, after all, an “artist.”

I read these passengers nearly drank the plane dry. I would have screamed at this mor

As do I, but we’re only seeing part of the picture, with this guy’s commentary woven in.
