I liked season 2 of True Detective, too. I feel kind of haunted by the ending. |
I was hooked before the opening credits of the first episode. "If Snotboogie always stole the money, why'd you let him play?" "Got to. It's America, man." Killer. My husband hadn't seen it, either, and he LOVED it. (He did need me to translate some of the Bawlmorese, though.) Not only are there so many amazing characters, but it is really smart about institutions, and the way that institutions shape people's choices. And it's not just the police department or City Hall--the drug dealers also operate within a system of rules that they have limited power to shape, even those near the top of the pyramid. |

Glad to hear people recommend The Night Of
I just started watching that while I have HBO for free for a little while. |
I agree. I liked Sopranos, The Night Of, Big Little Lies, Sex & the City (my second favorite), Big Love, Hung, Entourage, True Blood (in the beginning) but Six Feet Under is my all-time favorite. Divorce is ok. Hated Girls. Couldn't watch Deadwood or Game of Thrones. I'm just not a fan of non-stop language and violence (The Sopranos is about as much as I can stand). |
+1 to the above and I have a new one to add. I just binge watched Mosaic this weekend and really liked it. The basics are pretty easy to figure out early on, but I thought the characters were great and I liked the shifting timeline that filled in some of the larger story that you couldn't quite figure out early on. |
| I REALLY want to love the Wire but have tried episode one twice and never even got through the first 30 minutes - how many episodes until the greatness is revealed? |
It took me 4-5 episodes to get me really into it -I think the episode is called the Stakeout? Stick with it. |
