Going (Mostly) Makeup Free at Work

OP, I did this and also timed it with a job change, which made it easier since my new colleagues had never seen me with all of my makeup. Go for it.

Also I am laughing at the mascara/eyeliner debate! I only wear mascara for special occasions and my daily makeup is tightlined eyeliner. That's it. I curl my lashes if I have time. It looks polished but not overly done, and pretty natural too.

You look fine. The mascara harpies are usually the ones with short, thin, light lashes and small eyes. They look like death without mascara.

Mascara never looks natural. Ever.

eyeliner is the absolute least natural product ever. so whatever your view of mascara, don't use an eyeliner without it. it's ugly and weird.

Honey, this is makeup we are talking about. Mascara is not a natural product. Lipstick is not a natural product. Foundation is not a natural product.

You really have issues. Your bottle blond hair and mascara do not look natural no matter how hard you try.

DP.
Ma'am, I'm really sorry you didn't know before now that eyeliner with no mascara looks odd, but it does. By all means carry on if you wish, but stop trying to convince anyone that eyeliner with no mascara is a thing- it's not.

The best canvas for applying makeup is a nice complexion.
Good skin makes up a solid foundation for your look.

If you have a few blemishes, age spots or any redness, a light foundation should be applied to just cover these minor imperfections.
If skin needs hydrated, a good tinted moisturizer is also an excellent option.

Then basically groomed eyebrows, eyelashes curled + a natural lip tint are needed to pull off your look.

Wearing at least “some” makeup makes you appear that you make a daily effort in self-care which always makes the nicest impression on people you come into contact with!

Thanks, Mary Kay.

please post your pictures so that we can judge for ourselves. thanks!

Highlighter on the browbone never looks natural. That trend needs to die.

This is the key. You don’t have to wear mascara, but curling the lashes really opens up the face and gives one a more wide awake look.

+1
I always curl my lashes. Sometimes I add mascara. Never eyeliner, but if I was going to use eyeliner it would only be WITH mascara. (Otherwise that would be like wearing lip liner and no lipstick- not a good look)

Go for it, OP! I would if I could. As I get older, I find I need more makeup to achieve a natural look. I have good skin, but I'm very fair with blonde eyebrows and eyelashes and dark, genetic under eye circles (exacerbated by poor sleeping since having kids). At a minimum, I need concealer, blush or bronzer, eyebrow pencil/shadow, eyeliner and mascara to look presentable at work. Otherwise I look pale and ill.

I am now, but I work from home.

I did start wearing less make up overall around 40. My skin got so much better, clear, no spots/blemishes. Most of the day I just wear eye make-up and light lipstick. I also workout/sweat heavily each day so keep the pores open.

I will add tinted moisturizer/concealer, cream blush if I am going into the Office for the day which rarely happens. I wear this if I am going out to dinner or an event, etc.

Heavy make-up on older women isn't a good luck. I had melasma and acne in my younger years and once I got that under control it was freeing to go bare-faced. I look better than ever according to my spouse.

I never wore much makeup, but I dropped to tinted moisturizer only a few years ago, when I discovered that if I added earrings, and sometimes a necklace (I rarely wore jewelry before), I felt more comfortable/professional wearing less makeup at work. If I have an event at work (1-2x month) I'll maybe add powder and lipstick, but that's it. I have really sensitive eyes so I never wear eye makeup. I'm 37 and have always been lucky with good skin; I also have a baby face that tends to make me look younger.

+2 curling does more than the mascara, depending on your lashes. Mine just stick straight out so curling them even slightly makes a huge difference.

I do think people with dark lashes can get away without mascara, even if wearing eyeliner. IF the eyeliner is light/mild, top lash line only.

I was never good at doing makeup but when I first started my career I put a lot on. Probably more than I should have for every day! Then I started working from home full time and obviously didn't wear makeup during the week so I got used to seeing my natural face in the mirror. I started wearing less on the weekends and when I got my current job back in an office I wear much less makeup than before. I have light hair and eyes/eyelashes and I wear tinted moisturizer, subtle eyeliner (a thick eye crayon in either brown or gray), and mascara. If you feel good with less makeup on no one will even notice or pay any attention. I work in a really young office and most of the women here don't wear much, if any, makeup.

Brow powder, clear gloss, targeted concealer and a faint swipe of stain blush here. Love it! Lots of moisturizer and sunscreen keeps skin looking good, apart from the occassional monthly blemish. I only break out mascara and lip color for evening events, interviews, etc. I find the brows make the biggest difference and sometimes only do brows and gloss.

OP here to report that I did eyeliner, mascara and lip gloss and I survived. I am very excited that I have very little makeup to take off tonight! Thanks for the encouragement!

Cool - why did you answer this thread then? That's not was the OP was asking.

Bc OP said she’d feel a little insecure. This PP is all about being natural. Who’s going to judge you for being natural?
