That said, I never leave the house without mascara on. I have soft brown eyelashes and I hate how washed out I look without mascara on.

If you must, you must. But mascara is a huge look-changer especially if your lashes are light color. In this case, you are made up, and not "natural." Which is fine.

The OP is going nearly no-makeup, so mascara is the first thing to go. Eyeliner if shes uses any, should be applied lightly (pencil), never those liquid harsh black liner.

How is eyeliner more natural than mascara?

It is not if you insist using the harsh black liquid eyeline along with the black mascara. They are both changing your look big time, hence "made up" and unnatural.

OP here - what tinted moisturizer do you use? I've been thinking about using that too ... but I have darker olive skin, so it is so hard to find the right color match.

I use Laura Mercier. I prefer the regular over the illuminating one, but I have both. I've also used Too Faced Beauty Balm, which I like too.

While you keep stressing black liquid eye liner, no eyeliner would ever look natural.

I've never done heavy makeup - don't use BB cream, foundation or powder. When I go all out I use concealer, mascara, eyeliner, eyeshadow, and bronzer, with a tinted lip balm or lip gloss (lipstick just doesn't work for me). My "normal" makeup is mascara and bronzer. I have naturally good skin (olive and clear) and have been strict about SPF use since my teens. I'm 32 and feel perfectly attractive with the most basic makeup.

Do you, OP! Godspeed.

i wear no makeup except for mascara. eyeliner is the least natural looking make-up product.

I only wear lipstick in a dusty rose or nude color.

I love makeup, but I teach preschool, and I think it’s silly for me to put on a whole face every morning. So, I wear concealer, mascara, brow gel, and lip tint.

I agree that if the choice is eyeliner or mascara, eyeliner by far looks less natural (and in my experience is much tougher to remove). I also feel that eyeliner alone makes the eye look smaller. Just a swipe of mascara makes me look more awake.

On my “light makeup” days I just wear a light layer of foundation, a dusting of bronzer, one shade of neutral eyeshadow, one coat of mascara, and lip balm (not gloss or lipstick).

I’d kill for nice enough skin to not have to worry about foundation etc. but with rosacea that will never happen. If you have nice skin, you can get away with a lot less OP. A light sweep of blush and mascara, and you’re good to go.

Are you over 45? Are you a researcher, engineer, IT person?

Eyeliner without mascara is crazy.

OP, I would definitely try a tinted moisturizer. Or maybe Smashbox's Pore Reducing Primer. You can use it without foundation and it smooths everything out.

I have been doing eye pencil without mascara my whole life. I don’t like the sticky-lash feeling. Have I been looking like an idiot this whole time? (I have dark eyes and thick eyebrows, but normal dark lashes.)

Eyeliner is fine, no mascara.

Try the above, you should look quite naturally beautiful.

That looks so weird on women and makes the eyes look smaller. If you’re trying to cut down on products then skip the eyeline and just do mascara.

+1 unless you have naturally thick dark lashes - not many do - then this is bad advice.

Eyeliner with no mascara is not an enhancement at all.

I don't wear foundation or blush, etc. I have good skin and those always make me break out. I wear lipstick. Mascara only if I'm going to court, job interview, etc. I will probably start wearing mascara more as I get older, but I have never in my life worn a face product, so I don't really expect to do that.

Most of the women I work with wear minimal makeup. Mascara and lipstick only, if even that. Government lawyers and paralegals.
