Even if #3 were to grow up as an only child (which is absurd) - so what? Many children are in fact only children and many parents choose to have one child only.

My 2 siblings are much older than me and I definitively did not grow up as an only child + as an adult I have two siblings I am close to. Not an only child situation at all.

I wonder if you are just down about your kids getting older. I think if you'd really wanted a third you would have had one by now.
