Yes, while I'm one of the people complaining about being on the receiving end of a comment like this, I must admit I am sure I made my fair share of well-meaning but stupid comments over the years on various sensitive subjects (and will no doubt make more). So this reminds me that I should think twice before making assumptions about how people feel and give the benefit of the doubt to others as well when they stumble.
