SC Gov Sanford Admits Affair

Would they hate their father, both boys and girls? Would girls grow up to be mistrustful of all men?

Because I can remember being a young girl hearing about these kind of scandals in the news, always being about men of course cheating on their wives, and grew up pretty much assuming that's how all men are. I can't fathom how much harder it would hit the man's children in these cases.

I can't even begin to imagine the damage done to the children involved. And the father in this case only cared about himself - so I have to assume his children are already very fragile/damaged to begin with. There was a great article on msnbc about why politicians cheat - they're all narcissists who are used to breaking rules that everyone else has to follow. They love themselves and believe they are special. And they are risktakers.

Not great traits for being a father (or husband).

Apparently the affair is OK, because Maria is a smart, athletic, passionate woman who speaks several languages.

Oh give me a break - it wasn't mentioned that the affair was "OK" at all in that article. They were giving details about the woman.

If you are being honest, you must acknowledge that they were trying to paint the woman in a VERY favorable light and talking about "forbidden love" as opposed to "tawdry affair". It's like they don't even care about appearing biased anymore.

I am being honest. And I read it expecting to be annoyed if they spinned it that way. But all I read was information on this "other woman". It still made him look like a fool and a cheater.

I thought it was amusing they misidentified him as a Democrat during the press conference (before they cut away, that is). It's a bit of a pattern with them.

Excellent article, PP. I disagree though, I think politicians ARE more likely to cheat than the average Joe. There is a fishbowl effect that leads to greater chances of being caught. I'd still like to hear about what happens to the kids though - their views on marriage and stability as they get older. If anyone's interested, here's the link to the article PP referred to:

I still can't get over that he chose Father's Day weekend to have this little rendezvous. Apparently his wife had kicked him out two weeks before. So a real man who cares about whether he can see his kids would have stuck around for Father's Day so he could take them on an outing. Of course we don't have all the details but this looks to me like a man who is dumping his kids as well as his wife.

Yes, I am "outraged". Because of the hypocrisy. Specifically, his opposition to what I view as fundamental civil rights for people who view life and love and marriage differently than he does. Or should I say, differently than he CLAIMED to.

I was disgusted with Bill Clinton, but not quite outraged. Because I didn't recall listening to Clinton hold himself out as a spiritual, faithful, arbiter of what is morally correct in marital/sexual realms. Clinton never struck me as holier than thou. I was disgusted with his stupidity. To have sex with a young girl, in the white house, while you are the President, and think you're not going to get caught? He had so much to lose and he risked it for such a stupid, cheap, sordid thrill. Dumb, dumb, dumb.

But Sanford is worse than dumb. For a person to on the one hand be shaking their finger at gays, telling them they can't even adopt (never mind get married), to claim to be a soldier in defense of marriage, and then turn around and have an affair???? A faithful, committed gay couple where no one CHEATS is to me a healthier home to raise a child in. Think of Sanford's sons!

Don't forget that Clinton signed DOMA, so he wasn't exactly waiving the flag of inclusion. And I think he did thump the bible a few times and talk about how much he loves his wife, etc, through the many, many allegations about his affairs. He's just as slimy.

Now, Sanford is comparing himself to King David:

I have been doing a lot of soul searching on that front. What I find interesting is the story of David, and the way in which he fell mightily, he fell in very very significant ways. But then picked up the pieces and built from there.

Since King David didn't resign, neither is Sanford.

Perhaps if David had been able to marry Jonathan he would not have been unfaithful.

Sick, but funny.

And didn't David also have hundreds of concubines too? Maybe that's his next power play, to ask for concubines.

No, the great state of South Carolina is not going to take any stimulus.

Oops, sorry for the typo: "also" doesn't need an 'i'

Another one bites the dust. Another Republican that is.

I imagine it happens on both sides of the aisle but jeez, yet another holier than though Republican. Are they just dumber in getting caught?
