Trump and his campaign are now setting up to refuse to participate in the debates...

We are sorry that Mr Trump does not want to hold debates on the dates that have already been scheduled. However, it is important that he be comfortable with the dates picked. We don't want to give him any reason to back out on the debates as he did during the primaries, after all!

So, a deal for the Deal Maker: You may pick any dates you want for the debates and we will agree to them, HOWEVER if you do not proceed to show up for all three debates for any reason other than documented illness, you agree will give a press conference at which he will sing "I've got tiny, tiny hands" to the tune of Twinkle Tinkle little star.

Someone who actually gives a sensible answer.

I think the sensible answer is that there were zero football games scheduled when the debate schedule was announced.

So the better question: why can't the NFL schedule games on the (365x4) - 4 (too lazy to do math) night in a 4 year cycle when there are not presidential/VP debates?

Whether there were games scheduled at the time or not, it is not great mystery that there are invariably NFL games on Sunday, Monday and Thursday. So why not schedule the debates on a Tuesday, Wednesday or Friday before the actual schedule is announced?

well, they didn't want friday, so that leaves just tuesday and wednesday

this is a ridiculous issue. Just do the damn debates as they were scheduled.

Nothing ridiculous about it: just change the dates and it ceases to be an issue. Nothing sacrosanct about the dates they selected. Clinton does not have DWS and the DNC making the decision in this instance.

You're an idiot.

And you are a moron for arguing about a non-issue.

DWS and the DNC did rig the primary debate schedule timing for Hillary including the number of debates.

Just change the dates and move on - you know the Clinton campaign will cave on this. They want the debates and they don't want to appear to be balking at letting as many Americans watch the debate.

Of course Trump will make new demands once this is out of the way. Does Hillary want debates or not? I think Trump would be fine not to have any.

This was proved where?

It is sad the greatest decision our country will make this year is taking a back seat to football! If people want to watch the debates they will. In the age of TiVo, YouTube and 24 hour news channels along with replayed game channels there is no good reason to change any date. What if Dancing with the stars or a Greys anatomy or law and order su rerun marathon is on? The horror!

Unscientific DCUM poll: raise your hand if you are a voter who lives in a state that is going to be contested this election cycle (DC and MD folks, that rules you out) AND you plan to watch the debates anyway (and care so much that you couldn't TiVo one of them and watch it the next night) AND you actually care about the outcome of the Falcon-Saints game (months before playoff season)-- so much so that you can't TiVo it and watch it the next night.

No sock puppeting or knee jerk I'm with him votes, please.

I want to know if any of the six people who fit this description are on DCUM.

Yeah - just record the fucking debate on the DVR. WTF.

Don't be ridiculous. She's an experienced debater and ran circles around the Congressional committees trying to lay blame for Benghazi on her. She's smart and knows her shit. She's been preparing for this her entire life. Trump was perceived as doing well in debates because he got to share the stage with C-list candidates who were afraid of being subject to his ridicule. Trump will demand changes to the schedule and claim the system is rigged because that's his MO. Ultimately he will threaten to back out unless Johnson and Stein are on the stage to gang up on Hillary. #SideshowDon

Are people seriously arguing we should schedule our presidential debates -which may influence choosing the leader of our nation- around a game???

The committee looked at many factors, including holidays, special events, all sports events including but not limited to NFL. Not everyone cares about the NFL. There are tons of entertainment and media events to consider. The NFL should be considering the dates of these debates in their planning.

In 2012, there was one debate that conflicted ......... and in 2016 there are two debates conflicting with the football games.

What is the big deal about just scheduling them on dates that don't conflict?

Because now they have NFL games on multiple evenings -- and college games on some of the other nights.

But we'll just forget about democracy because -- football

+1 from another female fan

FFS, it's TWO games. Watch the recap and get over it.

It is so bizarre that he would lie about something so easily contradicted. Is there really nothing that he won't blurt out regardless of the truth??

The same could be said for Hillary.

The same HAS been said about Hillary. Repeatedly. But somehow Trump is just "telling it like it is" despite repeated evidence that he says whatever pops into his head whether or not it has any basis in fact.
