I do not understand why some people do not like Taylor Swift. She has a clean image. Her songs are catchy, and she is not sleeping with married men. I think she does a good job of being an independent woman, and not clinging on to a man if he not worthy of her. I like that she is not a victim. I love the fact that she turns heartache into successful songs and makes money out of it. She is stunningly beautiful, with an amazing model worthy figure and has a wonderful life of a normal single 20 something woman.
She is allowed to date men, and she is allowed to dump them if they are not up to the mark. Why the double standards? She is not doing drugs, not in abusive relationships, not smoking, not getting pregnant, not making sex tapes, not sexting, not getting her nude pictures hacked from the cloud. I think as far as celebrities are concerned, she is doing great. |

But if it's all just for show and she's actually ugly on the inside -- forming mean girl posses to take other people down, then that's not the singer I thought I was supporting.
If she wanted to use an alias for the song writing credit before, then why did she have her people release the info that she wrote the song now that it's a hit for her ex? It seems like pique, and it seems like an ungenerous thing to do. Like, maybe Harris is right that she should focus on herself and her new relationship instead of trying to mess things up for him. She doesn't always need to be the center of attention, does she? |
It was a hit three months ago. Allegedly what pissed her off was that he was asked if he'd ever collaborate with her in the future and he basically said, ugh, gross never! and he implied the song was all him. |
Yes - she is all of this and then some. I love that she's succeeding so nicely and I hope that she continues to succeed. But she needs to learn to let some things go. So what if Calvin Harris made some stupid snarky comment? The only reason anyone even knows about that dumb comment is because Taylor reacted to it. Let it go Taylor. |
The lyrics are so basic! Nothing worth fighting over. |
I like the way that Katy Perry doesn't seem to take herself too seriously. She dresses pretty much in costumes for her public appearances - figuring hugging/low cut/short skirts/heels. But she isn't afraid to be seen in public with no makeup and her hair tossed into a pony tail. And if you get a crappy picture of her she does not care. She knows she looks good when she needs to. When she's just out and about on the town her outfits are usually casual/comfortable - what any other normal girl would wear. I love the fact that the famous bra she wore in the Teenage Dream video is a bra that you can get at Walmart. She has a way of connecting with her audience in subtle ways like that. She can be kooky and she spotlights her figure when she performs but she doesn't do it in a self degrading sort of way like that awful Wrecking Ball video that a certain someone did ( trashy). Can't really fault Katy for being pretty, having a nice figure and knowing how (and when) to work it.
I think that Taylor's transformation from lanky, awkward girl to beautiful young woman. She manages to look both sexy and tasteful. And she manages to date lots of men without looking "easy". Now she's just got to work on ignoring some of the little jabs that people (especially ex boyfriends) take at her. |
| Taylor's transformation from a lanky awkward outsider into a beautiful A-list celebrity who can date every hot guy and is best friends with a clique of beautiful models has gotten to her head. Its too much too fast and she has gotten caught up in it all. Asking for credit for a song that she willingly was credited for in her pseudonym was petty and catty. She needs to rise above it and shake it off. |
You talkin' about my Dolly now with those lyrics and Imma cut a bitch! |

I liked Taylor better in her younger years (like around the song "Fifteen", whatever album that was on). She seemed slightly more believable then, even through her fake country accent.
But after you listen to her for awhile - especially on live recordings - you realize that she really can't sing. A lot of pop stars can't really sing, though, so I tried to get past that. But the Red album, with those horrible dirge-like duets, I could only listen to half the album. And then her transition into, what exactly is she trying to be now? Sexy? Yet still a "good girl"? It's hard to figure out. I would actually respect her more if she just owned it like Avril or Miley. |
Right? And if you can't sing, you better be able to hit that eight-count. So she can't dance and she can barely carry a tune...what is so great about her? Can't believe she is supposed to the this generation's Madonna. I don't see how adults can listen to her music with a straight face. |
Lock the thread. PP wins. |
| Nope nope nope. I'm hoping Swift defies the trend of aging child music star dressing in smaller and smaller dresses to get attention as she ages out of her kid pop marketing base. There has to be a better way for women to stay relevant than making it all about sex and sexuality. |
+1 She is popular because she is white, promotes a WASPY aspirational aesthetic and hasn't been so far very obviously sexy. A welcome break from the slutty trashy celebs taking all the limelight. When you look closer, you realize she can't sing and she can't dance. She is like the Wizard of Oz. All theatrics. |
She wrote the song to help Calvin Harris, who she was in a serious relationship with. She was probably aware that she was a bigger success than he, and because she wanted a future with him, she was trying to discreetly help his future by writing and composing the music of a hit single, so that he is successful too - incase, the disparity in their respective success was preventing CH from proposing. She probably DID want Rhianna to sing it because she did not want people to say that Calvin Harris was finding success on the back of Taylor Swift. Her reason for reacting negatively to CH is because he had no intention of having a future with TS. He knew he was not serious about her, he knew that she was helping him because of her vision of their joint future, and he still used her. He is a user and a loser. She is now with Tom and he has a huge fan following amongst the younger crowd. Go Taylor! |

She's not a great singer or dancer, but she's a good song writer. She's written a lot of songs/melodies.
I never understood her appeal until my daughter became a fan, and I appreciated her wholesome, positive image. |
