Well, I do appreciate that Swift writes her own songs and has huge concerts that entertain people without putting propellers on her breasts. Or singing about anacondas, or simulating sex or fellatio or caressing another singer's junk with a giant foam finger. I mean, it sounds crazy to actually write these things down like they are accomplishments, but that's where we are. I mean, sometimes I show my daughter Katy Perry videos, but I always feel like it's a bit wrong to do so. Okay so she gets herself out of the jungle instead of relying on the man, but does she still need to have enormous boobs and a tiny waist and almost no clothes in order to do that? Taylor is also impossibly slim, but in general she keeps things covered and her dancing is lovably awkward, not sexy (whether that's intentional or not I'm not sure -- it seems intentional in Shake It Off).
I like the way that Katy Perry doesn't seem to take herself too seriously. She dresses pretty much in costumes for her public appearances - figuring hugging/low cut/short skirts/heels. But she isn't afraid to be seen in public with no makeup and her hair tossed into a pony tail. And if you get a crappy picture of her she does not care. She knows she looks good when she needs to. When she's just out and about on the town her outfits are usually casual/comfortable - what any other normal girl would wear. I love the fact that the famous bra she wore in the Teenage Dream video is a bra that you can get at Walmart. She has a way of connecting with her audience in subtle ways like that. She can be kooky and she spotlights her figure when she performs but she doesn't do it in a self degrading sort of way like that awful Wrecking Ball video that a certain someone did ( trashy). Can't really fault Katy for being pretty, having a nice figure and knowing how (and when) to work it. I think that Taylor's transformation from lanky, awkward girl to beautiful young woman. She manages to look both sexy and tasteful. And she manages to date lots of men without looking "easy". Now she's just got to work on ignoring some of the little jabs that people (especially ex boyfriends) take at her.
