Neighbor has left car in front of my house for 3+ weeks

Not OP - But my kids play soocer in the front yard. Cars parked there could easily get dinged. Because I am a nice, normal person, I prefer not have my kids to ding other people's cars.

Other reasons:

- their car is a clunker that they do not want parked in front of their house, yet feel ok parking it in front of mine.
- I park a car in those spaces. Why should I have to park in front of another person's house because you parked in front of mine?

Or the best question of all: Why does it bother neighbor to park in front of their own house? If it bothers them to park in front of their own house, doesn't it reason that I can be bothered when they park in front of mine?

OP, I'd mention it again. Just say that in general, you like to be able to sometimes use the parking outside of your house. But that you've noticed this one car has been parked in the same spot for 4 months. Then just ask if they'd mind moving it closer to their house. Say thank you and move on. You can even throw in a comment about how you know they CAN park there, but that it'd be nice if it wasn't a permanent parking job.

Then move on. It'd annoy me too, but not enough to get in a war with my neighbors about.

Agree. I am not sure why OP is so bothered by this; seems like she has somewhere to park.

They will know it was you if you ask about it repeatedly.

Because it is a public street, meaning it should be available at some point for other members of the public to use that spot. It is considered discourteous to hog other public resources such as taking over a swing at a public park for weeks on end. If everyone just decided to use public streets as dumping grounds for their unused vehicles for extended periods of time, then neighbors and their visitors cannot also benefit from the public parking spot, which may be a huge hassle during times of bad weather. Not to mention, cars just left sitting for an extended period of time tend to become clunkers and junk up the streets. There is a reason most counties have abandoned property ordinances for situations like this. It would bug me too OP if someone thought they could offload their unused car outside my house for a long period of time.

Ugh, I wish my neighbors would park in front of our house rather than theirs (across from us). At least then we could pull into our driveway more easily. They park for months at a time just across from our driveway, making it hard for us to get in or out without hitting them. Nothing we can do about it, though, as being across the street puts them outside the magical 5' radius in Montgomery County... But this is a good reminder to keep an eye on their registration tags. Maybe we'll get lucky and they'll forget to renew!

12:11pm: We have something in common. My neighbor across the street always parks their car in front of their house, rather than using their LONG driveway or garage. Our street is a very narrow street to start with. Pulling in or out of our driveway is made a lot more difficult because of this parking situation. We have talked to our neighbor several times but to no avail. Ugh.

I did this in Arlington too.

Good idea. Do this OP. A month is ridiculous.

We have a neighbor that has 6 or more cars (for a two person household), and he parks them on the street. The worst thing is that three of the cars are complete pieces of crap...rusted all the way through, seats torn up, etc. They've been sitting in the same spot for years, filled with junk, in front of neighbors' homes! He has the nerve to keep them legal by putting "Historic" plates on them.

In Arlington, this is incorrect. It is considered an abandoned vehicle. If it's reported to the county, they will tow it.

We had a situation like this on our street and one day a visiting teenager backed out of the neighbor's driveway and hit the car parked directly across. I felt bad for the kid because it was really tight with the car parked there and as an inexperienced driver, she just didn't realize that there was so little room to maneuver. The other neighbor stopped parking across from that driveway after that, though, so there was a benefit there.

Not sure how it is in FF County but I know one neighbor called the cops after got tired of seeing a POS parking in front of his house for weeks. The cops showed up, traced the plate or did something and found the owner nearby. The owner of the POS now parks it on his own driveway.

It's still not clear why the owner had to move it then, if it belonged to a neighbor and not an abandoned car?

I feel for everyone here. My neighbor parks his police car in front of our house every night instead of in front of his house. We live on a wide street with plenty of parking. I find this irritating I guess b/c I am not a huge fan of the police. I do know that it has made friends and family nervous too when they came by.

Forgot to mention he lives across the street so he's parking it in front of our house. I guess b/c it's faster to drive out of our street in the morning? Still bugs me though.

Well, a relative of mine leaves his car on our street for a month at a time when he travels overseas. It's usually in front of a neighbor's house because our second car is in front of ours. My neighbor only has one car in the driveway so I never asked their permission for that spot, and in any case it's a public street so anyone can park there. What makes people think they own the street?
