Neighbor has left car in front of my house for 3+ weeks

Why exactly does it bother you?

OP, as soon as they move the car park your car in the spot. You'll always have a spot free for guests in your driveway. This is what we do in our neighborhood

OP, does the neighbor not have a copy of the owner's keys to move the car themselves? They could just move it to your neighbor's house.

Oh please. I'd be annoyed too in this situation- it's incredibly rude. OP, I'd just keep mentioning it to the neighbors. Squeaky wheel gets the grease, and all that.

At least it's your immediate neighbor whom you know. I live in NW DC a few blocks from one of those Millennial-oriented apartment buildings that opened with virtually no parking. (The planners and developers claim that new residents don't drive. Yeah, right, and in any event they sure own cars.) Some of the new residents have out of state registered cars but have gotten hold of "visitor" parking placards which allow them to park for free on area streets, avoiding DC registration and taxes. Then, they'll leave their vehicles for a week or two at a time in front of the house. It's a public street, of course, but it's annoying to lug toddlers and groceries some distance, knowing that we register our cars and pay all the fees and the myopic Millennials just park where they feel like it while flouting the system.

We had a similar situation on our cul-de-sac. Check your city/county rules. We found out that City of Gaithersburg requires all cars on public streets to be moved within 24 hours otherwise it is considered an abandoned car. You can call the city and get it ticketed and eventually towed.

You raise two issues here.

One is people abusing the parking placards. Totally valid complaint.

Two is you not being able to find a parking place near your house or apartment. This is on you. Honestly, what did you expect living in the city in a place without a reserved parking spot??

Signed -

One of your DC neighbors who spent a bit extra to buy a home that had a reserved parking spot.

I had a similar issue, but didn't even know to whom the car belonged. It was frustrating because everything was current, so it wasn't "abandoned." However, I did call the non emergency number to report it and told the police that I was concerned about what might have happened to the owners. Less than 2 hours later the car was gone! The police must have done a wellness check on the person and they realized that they should move their damn car!

That question is from someone that does not live in a suburban neighborhood with driveways setting. Imagine if you were on the metro and the guy next to you angled his legs away from his seat and rested them inches away from your feet. Or if you were on the escalator and with lots of empty steps someone stood on the one right behind you. It is why guys usually leave an empty "spacer" urinal in a public restroom.
That is what it feels like.

The parking situation is annoying, but you don't own public land and streets. I move these large rocks when I see them.

Are you Hercules?

Or just have it towed. Pay extra tip. Done.

I'd start parking there so nobody else can

It's rude. The permacar should be in their driveway and daily use car in front of neighbors,as needed.
