| Is it appropriate that I am kind of annoyed by this? I live in a suburban neighborhood, so there is no stress about parking, but one of my neighbors has left a car in front of my house for a little less than a month. When I asked about it, they said it belonged to one of their "relatives" and that the person would pick up their car in a week. It's been more than a week. A while ago they left a car in front of my neighbor's house for 4 months. They don't ever move the car, they just leave it there. They have too many cars, so inevitably someone also parks in front of my house and comes and goes. I don't care about this, but I don't like that one of their relatives just ditched a car in front of my house. |

Have it towed.
Then deny you did it. |
| There was a 100 page thread about this a few months ago. People had very heated opinions about it. It's a public street so he's well within his right but if it pisses you off tell him to move it. If he doesn't, start parking all of your cars in front of his house. Also, in the future, put big rocks along the edge of the street in your front yard to prevent people from parking there. |
The parking situation is annoying, but you don't own public land and streets. I move these large rocks when I see them. |
Part of me really, really wants to do this, but I don't want to start WWIII over something this silly. I just want them to move the car, and not leave cars in front of my house for months at a time. |
Why would a neighbor get angry at you for leaving a rock in your front yard? Also, check the registration sticker. If it's out of date call the cops. |
|
In Moco, unless it's unregistered, blocking a driveway, or too close to a driveway (5 feet), it's legal.

Check the regs in your jurisdication to see if there's a limit for a parked car. I live in Arlington near the airport so occasionally one of us might have a friend or family member's car parked on the street for a few weeks while they are out of town. That being said, we do our best not to park right in front of a neighbor's house. Yes, it's public property, but if nothing else, that's also where trash cans go every week. I would be annoyed if I had to move my cans half way down the street for a month. It's their right to do it, but luckily my neighbors are considerate.
Here's an attempt at a drawing to kind of explain what I mean -- park cars for longer term in-between houses so they aren't blocking more regular traffic, trash pickup, leaf pickup, etc. Obviously this doesn't work in all neighborhoods but it seems to work in our's. Ok, that didn't look right when I hit submit. I had a large space between the houses, and the car was parked in that mid-space, parallel with yard rather than directly in front of a neighbor's house. |

Tell him you have mobility-impaired/disabled relatives visiting soon for the holidays and he needs to move the car ASAP. I'd talk to him again. Why can't it be parked in front of his house?
What does your municipal ordinance or HOA say about leaving cars parked for long stretches of time? |
We're in a cul-de-sac, so I have more street frontage than they do. Plus, they have something like 6 cars (there are a lot of people living in their house). I'm not sure what the ordinance is. |
I'm talking about on your yard. If there isn't a curb in his neighborhood then the car would be parked along the edge of the yard. Obv this wouldn't work if there are curbs. |
Are they running a boarding house? There are limits as to how many people can live in a house. I'd start there as a point of negotiation with the main owner/renter that you're speaking with. |
Good call. Could be a brothel. I'd ask the authorities to investigate. |
| Tell them you want to take some pictures of the house for the holidays and please move the car. My not have a key though. |
