You ever just go to a restaurant and the food is just basic?

Maybe to all you fellow unsatisfied diners, try eating somewhere that's not in Georgetown or Bethesda or at your "club." There is plenty of good food to be had here.

Ethnic food is the exception. If we lived closer, I would go to Taste of Burma once a week.

The wagon train from Pohick does only come into town every two months or so.

I don't know. I like Matchbox--but I can't seem to get out of there for under $120 for 5 of us and that's without even drinking.

Your're right. If it's not an amazing restaurant I'm done spending money for it.

This is awesome - as support that DC restaurants are bad, PP offers nationwide chains, one of which exemplifies everything wrong with the way Americans eat. Well done, ma'am. You are an idiot.

I love that you can't tell the different between possessive and plural. This is everything that is wrong with people today: they're STUPID.

Yes. I might quibble with some of your choices, but yeah. Add to the list Little Serow, Kapnos, G Sandwich, Red Hen, dozens of little taco places across the city, Korean in Annandale, etc., the DC area has some outstanding food. Are all restaurants great? No, of course not. But there are plenty that are exceptional.

When people complain in the abstract that DC food is "bland" and then don't name the restaurant, there's really no point in arguing with them, since they likely are taking about Chef Geoff's or some other bland midwestern shopping mall refugee. "PF Chang's is supposed to be really great Chinese, but it was so bland!"

I think it's a parody....

+1. The DC dining scene has always been very blah. It is better now, but a lot of the newer restaurants that are hip and such still serve very blah food.

I just moved here after living in Chicago for multiple years. I am going through fantastic restaurant withdraw!!!!

You are ridiculous. Try some of Roberto Donna's top restaurants and get back to us. DC has world class restaurants. Chicago is only good for beef.

Yes, if only it were 1997.

Seriously, this thread is full of some epic dunces.

OK, this is monumentally stupid. Chicago is a fantastic restaurant town.

Sure, Komi is good. But the quality of average food here is way below average, if that makes sense. In Philly I can go get an amazing sandwich at a random bar. In NYC I can get a yummy bagel or Chinese food pretty much anywhere. In DC -- good luck with takeout! DC is nowhere close to a food city. Maybe the best of the best here is on par with the good in NYC, but that does not a food city make.

Yeah I agree with the article; I used to go out all the time, but now I rarely do with the exception of take out.

I've found that if I want good food, I usually have to go high end or get cheap ethnic. And the cheap ethnic places are mostly in places like Annandale or Wheaton; true, there are a few places in DC, but I'm not posting here because I don't want them ruined. They aren't exactly cheap either, but cheap enough.

I can't really think of too many restaurants with a nice vibe that aren't very expensive.

My latest go to places that I can afford for normal special occasions (like birthdays, but not graduations) are: Estadio and Le Diplomate.

Really? So Komi, Rose's Luxury, Little Serow, Rasika and Kapnos are "on par with the good in NYC?" Stop. Just stop. You're embarrassing yourself.
