Thanks for speaking truth to power
, or whatever it is you think you are trying to accomplish.

+1. I thought it was just upper NW posters who were bitter about how good Brent is now.

Yes. Most of DC (and especially upper NW with their top ranked ES that feeds into Deal that feeds into Wilson) are bitter about Brent. Excellent point. Also, good on you for knowing that Brent=power. I would love to see the other people in your neighborhood cringe every time another one of these retorts is typed.

P.S. You guys actually put those words down on paper. I didn't even have to paraphrase! Best entertainment ever.

You're not paraphrasing, you're just making things up! Brent=power? What?

Reading comprehension is an important part of any educational experience. But let me help. See, for several days I've been tweaking my friends from Brent. Clearly speaking directly to you guys. And in return you all continue to reply and make my point for me and show your lack of historical perspective. So when one of the Brent apologists says that I am "speaking truth to poser" and the only people I'm talking to are Brent parents...see???

Thanks to the Brent families for days of entertainment. I believe I'm done with you all now.

I guess you really showed us. Your talents are plainly being wasted. Or are you just off your meds?

Fact remains that many of my kids (we are from WOTP, but zoned for Hardy) friends at Basis who come from Brent. If all of those kids in the 5th grade have younger siblings, they are going to take up a large part of Basis in years to come as people realize what a true academic powerhouse it is..........

Weirdest thread....

Those of us living on Capitol Hill need to accept that there is no political urgency to fix the Balkanized middle school situation. SH will improve incrementally as LT and Watkins flip to majority IB schools, but that is at least a few years down the road. In the meantime, the Cluster continues to get more than its fair share of modernization funds for SH and Watkins, while Peabody and Brent are bursting at the seams. Families for Maury aren't going to be able to flip EH on their own anymore than families IB for Brent are going to be able flip Jefferson on their own. Parental time and resources are finite and will continue to skim much of the cream. The status quo will be preserved.

End scene. Curtain please.

Congratulations on being content with a bad situation.

The reality is that people are not going to move from Capitol Hill. The interest rates were very low when the many of us late-comers came to the table. We paid a lot for our homes and are not okay with the middle schools staying so-so. So your idea that it's over is wrong.

Also this thread is really weird. There is so much resentment towards people of Brent and Maury it's crazy.

It's not ok for the students there now or for future students. So what's your plan?

Just because I have decidedcto accept a bad situation doesn't mean I am okay with it. Many of us tried to fight the middle school battle several years ago, whether openly or behind the scenes. In the end, there is no consensus on the Hill. Henderson, DCPS and Tommy Wells took their cues from CHPSPO, which was dominated by the Cluster. Brent was effectively told to go f@#k itself and be happy with a dual feed to Jefferson and Eliot-Hine. DCPS is good at making promises. The follow through is what is lacking. Thankfully, charters solved the conundrum for many of us. Mis it any wonder that with the exception of Brent and Maury, Capitol Hill Elementaries continue to be majority OOB by a wide margin.

Wait, are you siggestijg that the late comers who paid a lot for their homes when interest rates were low need to come up with a plan? Pass the popcorn, please.

If anything, they will continue to rise as development progresses south of the Freeway (e.g., Whole Foods, etc.) i haven't seen any suppression of prices of homes IB for schools like LT at which high-SES families have eschewed except for PK. I mean, seriously, take a look at prices for homes IB for Tyler or Payne. Location, location, location.

That's hilarious. Are you aware that a Whole Foods is going to open 2 blocks north of LT? You know, right down the street from the new Giant. And the other new massive mixed use. And have you looked at the IB numbers for LT for 1st? or 2nd? Brent is a great school and a great neighborhood. But are you aware there are other neighborhoods that are on an upswing? I do agree that the real estate will always be available...all those Brent families need to sell after 5th grade!

??? No Brent parent will ever need to sell. Brent is the feeder for Latin and Basis. Brent will take all of the seats thru sibling preference. It's the other Hill schools who have to worry about the lack of MS option.

I just checked the myschooldc website and you should call them. It doesn't list "Brent Families" under Lottery preferences. Neither does Latin! Just sibling. So that means that the people who have kids there won't have to sell, but your neighbors are calling realtors as I type. Unless sibling has a different meaning IB for Brent. Does it? Please illuminate the meaning in that rarified air.

You're making my argument for me. As a Brent booster/apologist the best defense for the atrocious feeder situation is...families that already have kids in a charter won't be harmed. I guess their's no "I" in Brent. I wouldn't know because neither my kids nor I were educated at Brent.

How long have you lived here? You seem out of touch. No, Brent is not a literal feeder to Latin or Basis. No, Brent families are not calling their realtors, unless it is to make a mint off of their million dollar houses.

I get that Capitol Hill is expensive all over, and I can understand why you might have a Brent chip on your shoulder if you bought an expensive house in bounds for a school like Ludlow-Taylor without realizing that all schools on the Hill are not yet on equal footing.

Not on equal footing? You're right, LT has higher CAS scores than Brent. Apparently the teacher quality is pretty equal.

I wish people would stop thinking CHPSPO equals Ward 6.

Anyone else want to join me in the Ward 6 Education Network? To hell with CHPSPO - they need to stop thinking they speak for all Ward 6 parents. They don't.
Anonymous
^^^^^^ yes!!! Finally. Where and when. I will be there and will help spread the word.
Anonymous
If you are gunning at CHPSPO then you need to start with Charles Allen, his Chief of Staff is full-on CHPSPO.
Anonymous
Be aware that CHPSPO operators are everywhere--our OSSE representative for Ward 6 and Charles Allen'soffice for starters. They tend to believe they know what is best, just and equitable when it comes to education and they have the political influence to make it happen. They work hard and show up at city council meetings and have good intentions. But open minds and assuming that others with different ideas also have good intentions is not their strong suit.

You're right, LT is undoubtedl6 a far better school than Brent will ever hope to become. Now that we have clarified this very important issue can we get back to the topic at hand? You know, middle schools.
