Ward 6 Middle Schools

You might be talking about me (my daughter used to sing the "DC-CAS Crazy" song in the shower -- and you know what, I don't have any problem with treating the test like a big game and having pep rallies and singing songs about it. It's fun and builds enthusiasm, and it certainly isn't "teaching to the test." You miss the point of the story -- my daughter wasn't singing that song because she was stressed out about testing, she was singing the song because she loved it. So they managed to make kids aware of the test WITHOUT stressing them out about it.

You risk looking foolish -- the IB stats are changing at LT as you type.

And go ahead an explain away how all these OB kids from Wards 7, 8, and 9 cheaters outscored the Brent stundents on the most recent DC CAS.

Don't get me wrong, I'm glad you love Brent, but don't act like it's the only decent option or that it's everybody's preference despite what "IB parents you know" tell you.

You're not exactly convincing me. Are you aware that "as you type" consists of words which have a literal meaning? Was there a sudden influx of IB kids at the time that qyou posted this? No one ever said that Brent was the only "decent" option. I would also recommend digging much deeper into the CAS results by subgroup and class before drawing too many sweeping conclusions.

Many, many phrases have literal meanings. In fact basically everything that isn't an idiomatic phrase does. That's why there's a concept in many languages called "figurative meaning". If your brain can only process literal meaning then that's ok; everyone can't be of average or better intelligence. But for some people literal gives way to figurative meaning.

Sigh...Stupid people don't scare me; stupid people who think they are smart scare me to death.

Did Hine ever get any modernization money? I thought Bowser told them to "find it elsewhere" - anyone know where this stands?
Anonymous
No bites huh? That many are going to Hine I guess?
Anonymous
Someone told me that Hine and Jefferson got the money back for renovations.
Anonymous
When will Hine reopen?
Anonymous
Hine was torn down this summer and is currently a pile of rubble. _Eliot_ Hine is the school you are discussing.
Anonymous
Yes, was referring To Eliot Hine.

Thank you for clarifying; I thought that was the original meaning but I did not want to speak for someone else! It is so silly, if the scorer are low, the school is bad; if the scores are high, they teach to the test...is there any way to win the game?

My understanding is that EH and J received some funding next year for "planning." Upgrading these Ward 6 MS apparently are not a priority for the Mayor or Chancellor so I wouldn't expect to see much happen in the next several years.

The real question is whether Eliot Hine and Jefferson will recieve the same amount of money that Stuart Hobson got (approx. $35 million). Apparently Eliot Hine and Jefferson got about $1 million a piece for planning, just to throw the dog a bone and allow everyone to declare victory.

Per Joe Weedon (DCBOE Rep.), Maury has 40+ families that did not enroll in the lottery and plan on enrolling their 4th grade kids to Eliot Hine, and that would be a good start towards attracting a critical mass of High SES folks.

Not sure there were that many high SES families in the class that just finished 4th grade at Maury.

The strangest thing...is that DCPS has not change one iota in reference to Ward 6 middle schools. If one thing for sure the Rhee foundation and Henderson building is still in the works. The best way to deal with Ward 6 parents is not to react haphazardly but respond accordingly and results will be driven.
