Interesting that you would put Marie Reed (Spanish, I presume) over Stokes. Do you live near MR?

No, we live closer to Stokes. We came out with a better impression of Mary Reed than of Stokes after the open houses.

Make that "Marie" Reed, sorry.

Anonymous wrote:Lee chartered through 5 I think. Preliminary plans brewing to possibly create a middle school/ high school

I thought it was 6 with plans to extend charter for middle school? There was a mention of hs at an early orientation last year, but I took that as just dreaming (lots of admin/staff/patent enthusiasm but I don't see hs happening unless there is some kind of experiential learning feeder plan involving multiple schools like IT and Rivers and CM etc.)

It would sort of make sense if there was some effort to create a Montessori charter for middle/high school. There are number of charter (and public) Montessori programs in DC and right now they get through elementary school and are just... done. Have to switch to a totally different method of instruction.

The admin team at Lee have expressed their wish to team up with other Montessori schools to create a Montessori middle/high school that they all feed in to.

Isn't the only option to team up with at this point Shining Stars?

Could LAMB feed to both a Montessori HS and DCI?

I second the statement about the Lee admin team having expressed their wish to create a Montessori HS. At their final open house this year, they said that, and when a prospective parent commented "like a Montessori equivalent to DCI?", they agreed.

As someone not currently at A deal, DCI, or Montessri Feeder, would love this option! I don't see the PCSB approving any other charter middles/high schools though if they get they're act together and work with DCPS. Why to talk to Brookland Middle about a montessori program?

Shining Stars, Capitol Hill at Logan, LAMB, Langdon... are there other DCPS Montessoris?

Not the PP, but I would too. New building and smaller class sizes.

Lafayette will have a new building next year. Worth all that for 1 year? Also, are the classes really smaller? Or just the overall size of each grade?

Doesn't Lafayette have an open space model?

You mean 2014? Or will it begin next school year?

Op, that's exactly why. More concerned about how big lafayette is overall and would prefer a smaller school community setting. Hearst also offered a lot in the way of extracurriculars. This is not to say that we dislike lafayette but felt Hearst would be a better fit for our DC. Either way we would be happy. We are fortunate enough that we have an IB school we like but it doesn't hurt to try for one that we thought fit a little better.

There is at least one other Lafayette IB family that chooses to go to Hearst. It's not unheard of.

PP, I'd love to hear your thoughts about Marie Reed vs Stokes--the MR building is usually such a deal-breaker for people. We also ranked Marie Reed higher than Stokes. What made you like MR more than Stokes?
