No the evidence is that Asians prefer western Fairfax and annandale. They generally do not live in Chevy Chase, NWDC or N Arlington because they feel they are not getting moneys worth to be in elite locations. Trust me the Asian percentage in Fairfax well exceeds Chevy Chase or Ward 3 ... |
Chantilly is for "successful" Asians? So the Asians that own a 1.8 m house in Arlington is not? |
Also if you look at similar SES areas in Arlington and Fairfax there are many more Asians in Fairfax. Yorktown is only 8% Asian, but Langley, McLean and Marshall are 17-21% Asian. |
| FCPS is the gateway to TJ. Arlington does not have the ability to foster an Ivy League education. |
Said no one, ever. |

Last year, APS sent a handful of kids to various Ivies.
Interestingly, though, I think only a couple of them were from Yorktown. More kids went Ivy from Washington-Lee, HB Woodlawn or Wakefield than from Yorktown. (we're boundaried for Yorktown, so I found this a little odd, given how much luv Yorktown gets from Arlington parents.) |
I think you're quoting stale information from the Class of 2013 in Arlington Magazine. Not sure if that was the case for the Class of 2014, and Yorktown had many more NMSFs in the Class of 2015 than W-L or Wakefield (the latter of which had none). I'd bet some of those APS kids are Ivy-bound but, as previously noted, few of the NMSFs from Arlington schools in the Class of 2015 have Asian surnames, whereas a majority of those from FCPS do. |
The Arlington Magazine data is all self-reported. We can't verify the validity of those numbers. You would need actual Naviance data from each school for that. |

We're an Asian family that's living in the northern part of Arlington. Our neighbors are all lovely people but we don't necessarily hang out with them. And no, I haven't seen any Asians in the houses around our block.
My boy is in elementary school and I do believe he's the only Asian in his class. There's 1 hispanic and 1 Indian aside from my son who might be considered the minorities in class. Otherwise, everyone else is white. We're from the West Coast so it was a little odd seeing how un-diverse the class was. Wasn't a major concern...just not what we're used to. My son comes home happy 99% of the days since school started. He has always played with only a handful of kids vs everyone and anyone so I did have my concerns when he started and if he would adjust. He's still a fairly shy/quiet kid in school but I know he's learning a lot and enjoys it. I picked our neighborhood as it's relatively safe and fairly convenient to work. So I'd say prioritize what's best for you. |

How did you slip Marshall in that group without getting called out....Pimmit Hills poster is that you? |
| Marshall has higher SATs, SOLs, and GreatSchools ratings now than Yorktown or W-L, and also more Asian students. Not "slipping in" anything. |
Ha! You posted twice. |
Inaccurate...look again. |
