Do you feel the same that there is insecurity in those boosting Penn State, Harvard, Virginia Tech, Brown, etc, etc? People who are proud of their schools shout it from the highest rooftop. It's those that go overboard which turns people off from a school. I don't see any overt 'boosterism' from Washington U or any other school in this particular thread. |
Maybe we just had an extraordinary, wonderful experience at WUSTL. It's not insecurity, it's just that people love it that much. |
|
Moving on from WUSTL, Travel & Leisure did a list of "most beautiful college campuses" that included Indiana University and University of Cincinnati and Rice University. All of those choices were surprising to me.

| I visited Indiana once - GORGEOUS!!! Looked and felt exactly like what college should be. |
| DD fell in love with Pepperdine. She is looking at a lot of west coast schools and that was her favorite. |
So it came as a "surprise" that a school on the coast of Malibu had a gorgeous campus? I think the real surprise might be the religious nature of the school (unless your DD is Born Again). |
hilarious! Located on a hillside above Malibu, overlooking the Pacific Ocean. Gee, who'd a thunk it? |
| BTW, I've noted the recent thread wreckers in College Discussion. Jeff has more than once encouraged people to "report" those posts/posters when you feel they're being obstreperous or worse. I've really enjoyed many of the college threads here (and I'd never participate in college confidential or other cites), so I'd like to see it free from the mean-spirited thread-wreckers. |
These are some beautiful campuses. I wasn't aware of how lovely some of these campuses are. Thanks for sharing. |
We will be heading to the west coast in December to spend time with family and will also walk around some of the colleges. Although Pepperdine isn't on DC's list, it'd be nice to just see the campus and it's physical attributes. |
Yep. |
Cornell's weather is grey and dingy for a good part of the year. |
| ^^ not trying to derail the thread; just wanted the kids to know it's hard to be cheered by a pretty campus when it's 28 degrees and raining... again... |
| You can't have a list of the most beautiful campuses without having Virginia Tech high up on the list, IMO. |
| UCLA - Westwood baybee! |
