Uncomfortable about staff member at child's school.

Anonymous
Lots of normal people have social anxiety and social interaction problems. OP seems overly paranoid and perhaps not used to being around people who are not gushing warmth. To hire a PI on a person who "appears depressed".... is nuts.

Look I don't ususally need a good explanation for being uncomfortable with a particular adult around my child. I have let babysitters go simply beacause they seem a bit odd. Nothing specific, just some strange ways. Any parent would become uncomfortable. It is natural.

He just seems very depressed and distant. No telling what else is going on. It does not seem to be a good fit around kids. I see him as the going post office type. Does NOT strike me as the pedofile type, so that is not the issue (I think).
Anyway, I was thinking of taking my own money and getting a PI to look closer at this gentleman, in case there is something the school is missing.
Does this seem like a nutty approach?

NOT striking you as the peodphile type strikes me as code for Black. Given that your first instinct is that he will "go postal" means violence = Black man. I sure hope I'm wrong here but on the off chance that I'm not, have you ever had a conversation with him? What is his staff position? Has he always been depressed and distant? How long has he worked at the school? If you have the guts to project stereotypes and infer that someone will commit acts of violence based on appearing depressed and distant, then you should have the guts to speak with someone at the school. If, as most people here have said, you think that means consequences for your DC then that is the wrong school for you.

When children are involved we are all emotional and protective. Good luck and I hope your fears are unfounded for everyone's sake.

how did you come up with this??

$20 says yes because OP just seems like type that's afraid of "certain" Black people. Yes! I am stereotyping her.

How do you know the OP is white? WOW there are alot of crazy people on this board!

How so? I think she is suspicious BECAUSE he is Black or some race/ethnic group other than white.

Because I think YOU are the only one here linking a potential for violence with someone's race.

Nope!!! I repeat. I think she is overreacting because he is a race or ethnic group different from her own. Can't be anymore clear than that. Notice how she refuses to give his race or ethnic group. I am a Black woman and I see this ALL the time. If the staff member in question were white, this would not even be a thread on DCUM.

I am also an AA. And I believe you are not! You are just trying to start something!

This is a complete farce of an issue. We're in Washington, DC for crying out loud not, say, Minot, ND. EVERYBODY here is used to people of other races and ethnicities. You can't swing a dead cat without running into people who aren't your own race/background and it's absurd to suggest that OP using "depressed and distant" as code for "black." The OP sounds wacky in an over-protective and obsessive way, but she doesn't sound like a racist.

Chill OUT.
