People talk about N vs S Arlington all the time. If someone is not from the area, it is an honest question.

One could argue that there are better opportunities in South Arlington for children to be exposed to other cultures. South Arlington has some wonderful neighborhoods and some really great people. And, housing prices are less. We live in the neighborhood near Claremont Immersion and I actually know some No Arlington families that have begged to get their kids into Claremont. Also, you can buy a turnkey house for under 800k in S Arlington. Nothing like that in No Arlington.

Lets cut the bull shit and talk reality.

The houses are cheaper because the people are poorer and the school ratings reflect that. All south arlington schools have terrible scores check out greatschools.net.

Let's cut the bullshit and talk reality. Anyone who points to school ratings as the first and last word of determining how good a school is knows nothing about education.

if you remove all the low scoring students (over half) the school would be great , you could say that about anything. Arlington us very liberal and welcomes illegal immigrants who sick down public resources . You can bet they don't live in north arlington and the farm ratio mimics their population in south arlington which is high.

You must have not checked there lately.
Barrett has a rating of 6, Key a rating of 5, both in North A.
Henry a rating of 7, and Claremont a rating of 6, those are both in South A.
It is not correct to make blanket statements, and the ratings on greatschools change - I think for example two years ago the rating for Claremont was higher, but Key was the same, and McKinley was 10, now it is 8.
Does this mean anything? Most parents I've talked to don't give anything about the ratings.
I've talked to so many parents in both North and South Arlington who are very, very happy with their kids' school, and that includes many of the schools in South A. , like Claremont, Henry, Oakridge, Barcroft, Campbell, and Randolph.

If I paid 850 grand for an ugly North Arlington brick rambler ("for the schools" of course) I'd probably be attempting to explain how special N. Arlington is, too.

And does your post make you feel superior?

Yes ma'am, that was intentional.

Is there anyone on DCUM who isn't white?

If this is indeed true, thank you for your honesty. We're moving from the southwest so 'brown people' are the least of my worries. I'm more of afraid of traffic and the high concentration of people in the area.

What is your specific concern about the traffic? I find it at any time much better than DC!

It's all 10s or no dice, and 0% FARMS.

Have you ever looked at the demographic breakdown of performance in N. and S. Arlington schools? It used to be on the APS website; I haven't looked for it in a while, I'm sure it is still there. I'll give you the bottom line: there is no meaningful difference in performance between non-FARMS kids countywide. I have no idea what you are rambling about with respect to immigrants, illegal or otherwise, but the S. Arlington Schools provide the same education as the N. Arlington schools. Period.

Really? Then you must avoid McKinley, Barrett, Glebe, Key, and Long Branch, all in North Arlington, at all cost.
And for High School you must avoid the entire county; Yorktown has an 8, Wash. Lee a 5!

Plus, every house in N. Arlington comes with a unicorn and a rainbow.

That's it! We're totally moving to N Arlngton. We don't even have winged horses here in Alexandria. I want a Unicorn.

No, it's more like Silver Spring v. Rockville. South Arlington isn't as bad as these examples, and North Arlington isn't as good. (Hollywood, btw? Do you mean Beverly Hills? Still wrong.)

Hollywood has horrible schools and half of it is run down. It's more like Wheaton v. Reston. there.

OP, traffic is the same between N and S Arlington. If there is a diffference, it's marginal. Same with crowding. N. Arlington is a wealthier area, and it is one of the few places where there's a concentration of those nice 1910's - 1930's classic bungalows in the area. And people love them, there aren't very many of them, so the area is more expensive. S. Arlington neighborhoods like Penrose, Arlington Heights, Alcova Heights and Barcroft are all very nice. Good luck!
