look for the schools with the really bad test scores |
| I think the school issue is interesting. It seems like it these big high schools, there are schools within schools. So your kid is going to be surrounded by people of similar intellect, regardless of which school you pick. Maybe I'm wrong. |
No, I mean the metro line that goes through South Arlington and has four stops, dips hit. Can you people read a map? |
There's Pentagon, Pentagon City, Crystal City, National Airport and Arlington Cemetery. Which one is in Shirlington, "dips hit"? |
NP. She didn't write Shirlington, she wrote Sarlington. Nice try. |
Ha (as in good-humored "ha," rather than DCUM-at-its-worst sardonic "ha"). I grew up in Maryland, then moved to Virginia (North Arlington). Both have a lot more pros than cons, but my preference is for Virginia. |
| More crime and murders |
Who said Shirlington? We live in Pentagon City - in fact, we chose it because of the metro access. |
Here is the Metro in Sarlington post. |
Yeah, I mean every day that I walk from my house in Aurora Hills to the Crystal City Metro I'm stepping over like 3 dead bodies and dodging getaway cars. It's getting pretty dicey. |
| It all boils down to the same reason anyone feels superior to anyone else: when you are insecure about your choices, you have to make someone else's choices look worse. If I paid 850 grand for an ugly North Arlington brick rambler ("for the schools" of course) I'd probably be attempting to explain how special N. Arlington is, too. |
Lol! I stayed at the metropolitan apartments in pentagon city for five weeks while my husband was detailed to DC and I thought it was very nice! And very $$$, too! We can't even afford a 3 bedroom apartment there in crime ridden south arlington! |
| The schools are not there yet but otherwise its not too bad |
| The focus on schools is misleading. You have to start with the fact that South Arlington is less convenient to Metro and has an inferior housing stock, apart from a few neighborhoods and luxury apartment buildings. The rest flows from that. |
| The schools are not "better" in No Arlington, there is just a completely different demographic. One could argue that there are better opportunities in South Arlington for children to be exposed to other cultures. South Arlington has some wonderful neighborhoods and some really great people. And, housing prices are less. We live in the neighborhood near Claremont Immersion and I actually know some No Arlington families that have begged to get their kids into Claremont. Also, you can buy a turnkey house for under 800k in S Arlington. Nothing like that in No Arlington. |
