Can somebody please exain why South Arlington is considered inferior to North Arlington?

One could argue that there are better opportunities in South Arlington for children to be exposed to other cultures. South Arlington has some wonderful neighborhoods and some really great people. And, housing prices are less. We live in the neighborhood near Claremont Immersion and I actually know some No Arlington families that have begged to get their kids into Claremont. Also, you can buy a turnkey house for under 800k in S Arlington. Nothing like that in No Arlington.

Lets cut the bull shit and talk reality.

The houses are cheaper because the people are poorer and the school ratings reflect that. All south arlington schools have terrible scores check out greatschools.net.

I know people in south arlington who keep getting things stolen from their back yard. I never have to worry about that in north arlington.

Used to be crime (col. Pike) and schools. These have come around in a lot of S. Arl hoods, but not all.

Think SW DC vs NW DC--but a little less intense of a divide.

Let's cut the bullshit and talk reality. Anyone who points to school ratings as the first and last word of determining how good a school is knows nothing about education.

Plus, every house in N. Arlington comes with a unicorn and a rainbow.

The interesting thing is that no one talked about "North Arlington" and "South Arlington" until all the white yuppies started piling into Arlington. It used to just be Arlington, with different mailing addresses depending on whether you were north or south of Route 50.

It all seems a little over-the-top, given that the real money is still mostly elsewhere.

We deliberately chose S Arlington over north (houses cost the same in my neighborhood as they do in N Arlington). We picked South because the schools are just as good (just lower test scores because of larger population for which English is not first language), my husband works in Crystal City and we can walk 2 blocks to Pentagon City metro or 4 blocks to Crystal City metro. We can be downtown or in Georgetown by car in about 5 minutes and we can walk to Pentagon Row or restaurants on 23rd Street. I also like being closer to Old Town.

Don't tell that to the N. Arlingtonians. Super sensitive to the fact that they're still viewed as the poors.

Um, we live in Sarlington I have 2 metro stops 2-3 blocks away.

Liar liar pants of fire.

OMG! How am I going to get home--the blue/yellow line is GONE?

Do you mean the million dollar bus stop?

No, I mean the metro line that goes through South Arlington and has four stops, dips hit. Can you people read a map?

There's Pentagon, Pentagon City, Crystal City, National Airport and Arlington Cemetery. Which one is in Shirlington, "dips hit"?

Who said Shirlington? We live in Pentagon City - in fact, we chose it because of the metro access.

Sorry, should have clarified for you who enjoy jumping to the conclusion that every one else is an idiot. "No Metro where we could afford to look."

Better?

I think its the people from North Arlington stealing things to show how superior their area is.

This is laughable. I've lived in the same South Arlington neighborhood for 20 years and have never heard of anybody getting anything stolen from their yard.

Too many brown people, plain and simple, I don't care what other excuses people come up with.

North Arlington has more white people, South Arlington has more brown people. It's a race and money thing. End of story.
Is there anyone on DCUM who isn't white?

If I paid 850 grand for an ugly North Arlington brick rambler ("for the schools" of course) I'd probably be attempting to explain how special N. Arlington is, too.

And does your post make you feel superior?

If this is indeed true, thank you for your honesty. We're moving from the southwest so 'brown people' are the least of my worries. I'm more of afraid of traffic and the high concentration of people in the area.
