Agree. I saw an old Iron Chef show the other day, and it was so refreshing not to have to listen to the race for the first dish to be done in 20 minutes and the "culinary curveball." Yuck re the tricks. |
+1 That is the only show I watch now. |
Bravo's Million Dollar Listing. Love those shows! |
I love the Kitchen Cousins, as well. They can come over and renovate my kitchen anytime. "Hey, use that sledgehammer again..." |
+100!!! |
Designers' Challenge. Loved that one. |
OMG, I loved that show. It was about people who were generally buying total dumps and then flipping them. Obviously a product of the last decade. In many of the instances, the buyers were totally unrealistic about their timelines and budgets (i.e. planned on selling before they had to make more than 2 mortgage payments). Did not make me want to buy a flipped house! |
Love it or List It in theory is a decent concept, and I actually really like the homes because they tend to be interesting older homes in what looks like residential neighborhoods in a city (homes are close together, old details, etc). Not cookie cutter McMansions, etc.
But the hosts are ridiculous and WAY TOO ANNOYING. I can't believe they don't have any test-audiences that tell HGTV to fire these hosts or tell them to change their schtick! |
I agree, the hosts are annoying and I find each episode takes way too long. |
Did you ever watch Small Space, Big Style on HGTV. I loved that show! |
Does anyone remember that real estate show called "Double Agents" that was on awhile ago? It was two real estate agents competing to find someone's dream house. I liked it b/c they were all local (DC area). Of course, it was long enough ago that if you watched an episode now, you would be totally bummed at how low the prices were. |
I liked the shows Before and After, and the one where friends swapped houses for the weekend an re-did a room with a decorator. The guy named Vern, or something like that was awesome, but Hilly (?) was a nightmare!
Not sure if these were on HGTV though. |
I agree that Love it or List it can get annoying with the forced reactions to every uncovered problem. I happen to love Hilary though- I think she's really talented! |
I'm always more interested in what she can do with the space than the new houses they look at. sadly, there are a lot of times when the budget constrains her a lot and makes it hard to do the things that really SHOULD be done (kitchens a lot of the time). Oh, well. We personally are living with bathrooms that need an overhaul and flooring we hate on our second level because we don't currently have the spare cash laying around. But shows that have a renovation aspect to them are an addiction of mine because we have a ton of ideas when we finally DO get money for it. |
It is tough though b/c often the TV budgets are just materials, they don't include design costs or labor. So its so hard to know how much a similar project would cost you. |
