Obama's illegal aunt

Anonymous
The aunt sounds a bit selfish. In all, the asylum thing was probably a joke, that's why it was denied. She could easily go back to Kenya, there is no way that the government of Kenya would do anything to her with a "nephew" in the Senate, soon to be White House.

Just found out (via the internet) that my nephew, who I last saw in 1992, was benched during his college football game because of a disciplinary action. My brother gave up his parental rights to the boy years ago and has not been in touch with him for a good 15 years. I send him a Christmas card and a birthday card but he has not responded in years.

I guess if I were running for office, I would be responsible for whatever the kid has done to get benched???? Oh yeah, and I also discovered his brother's arrest record online a few years ago. I'd be responsible for that too???

That's absurd -- and I at least have some kind of history with these kids when they were little. Obama has even less with his aunt.

Wonder if McCain's children from a previous marriage have managed to avoid arrest......

My great aunt lives in a home that had an addition put on that was "out of code".

If I run for president, do you think this will be an issue?

I can't say I didn't know, because I just admitted to you all that I did know.

I just don't care all that much.

But now I'm scr***d if I say I don't care, because I will lose the votes of Joe the Plumber, Mike the Carpenter, and Sally the Contractor.

How's this:

I do know her addition is out of code, I do care that laws are followed, but... for Pete's sake, she's my Great-Aunt. I'm not her guardian. And I've only met her a few times. It's not like she's asking me for advice.

I just don't get it. An out of code addition is not the same. If there was a choice to do nothing, then he should have distanced himself further, or made sure that she took other steps to attempt to be here legally. Or at least not allow her to milk the system.

I don't understand why another poster stated it wasn't illegal for her to be here, and not a crime. However, if she were here legally, this wouldn't be an issue, and it is a crime. Sure it isn't the most vicious crime ever commited, but over staying your visa and living off the government (probably with a stolen Social) is a crime.

It is hard to immigrate into the country, for a reason. It takes a long time, and there are background checks, tests, and other steps that people just don't feel like they should bother with. If they don't like how hard it is to come here, than they should go to Canada where immigration laws are much more lax.

How can you distance yourself further, from someone you do not socialize with? How can you make sure someone who has ben denied asylum, can take other steps to be here, legally? Obama didn't "allow" his half-aunt to do anything. She is a grown woman, not his legal charge. The people of Boston have their own rules for who is allowed to live in public housing, and there is a difference between federally subsidized public housing and state-subsidized housing (or so I've read). Authorties in Boston and Massachusetts are responsible for deciding who gets to live there. Not Obama, and not you.

I can't help you there. I was the poster who said that, and I am basing my information on a news account that said that Obama's half-aunt entered the country LEGALLY, applied LEGALLY for asylum. He application was rejected, and she was told to leave. However, her failure to leave was considered a "non-criminal violation". I believe that that means the fact that she overstayed her visa was not a crime. What is the difference between a criminal violation of a law, and a vilation of a law? AI think a crime can land you in jail, but a non-criminal administrative violation means you get a fine.

So -- not only is it "not the most vicious crime ever committed" -- it is not a crime.

As for lving off of the government -- again, that seems to be between the people of Boston and Obama's half-aunt. I don't know what the rules are there, whether it is a crime for someone who is not a citizen to receive certain services. It might depend upon where the funding sources for different programs are coming from.

That may be where she ends up. At any rate this issue really doesn't not appear to have anything to do with Obama.

Maybe yes, maybe no, but it is a piece of the picture that has been hidden up until now.

Oh, sure. I can just see the headlines now.

"Senator Anonymous Turns in Elderly Great-Aunt for Housing Code Violation"

"Senator Anonymous has No Family Loyalty"

and the best will be the NY Post:

SNITCH!! Heartless "Hall Monitor" Senator Anonymous forces Great-Aunt to court to deal with rink-a-dink housing code violation: Critics say it wasn't even her state or jurisdiction.

One of several things that have been hidden until now.

Obama only met his father one time in his life...do we really expect him to be on top of the life of his "relatives" from Kenya who had no involvement in his upbringing what so ever???
Anonymous
Obama lived with his aunt for a few years- and regardless- you should know if someone in your family has something so blatantly illegal ad contraversial when you're runnign for president. The liberals here will dimiss it at Obama didn't know- just as his preacher or his communist role model- it's amazing how easily you can dismiss facts! I so hope the votes does not reflect getting Obama in- we are truly in for a bad ride (and no- I do not make over whatever $K). To those who defend obama- I so notice you focus on one point or two but can't really defend him completely. why? he has little experience (compare to his candidate- nit his VP - otherwise Biden would be running against McCain on years at least) - unproven and sending us to sociallism.

Why are people STILL talking about this? Give it a rest. Even the RNC is not using it.

She comes and goes back and forth to kenya. Parks herself here in a subsidized unit. Think of it as a second home in another country only paid for with public money. Won't need it now for the next 4-8 years since she can get a room in a white house. Maybe get a paycheck as well.

Is Obama's mindset part African or all African American? I see a difference. Just like part Italian versus Italian American.

Ohhhh, that's a new one! Obama is not only a socialist, he really is in the tank for Africa! He's going to sell us down the river to......Kenya!
Forget to take your meds this morning?

PP here. Could an African American have had the subsidized unit instead? No meds. I suppose you like subsidized housing for illegal immigrants or those who go back and forth.
