| Because I'm not shallow. I do have comfortable wedges for when the occasion calls for it, but heels on a regular basis? Please. |
|
Because I'm a kindergarten teacher. Comfort is fundamental. I mean, really.
FWIW, most times I see women wearing heels they look like they're trying too hard and are in excruciating pain to boot. 95% of the time it looks ridiculous. I can see wearing them with evening wear, but the rest of the time? Life's too short. |
+1,000,000 Fuck the gay guys and bitches who think women have to suffer for fashion. Seriously, I will wear whatever the hell I want. I wore sneakers all the time when DH met me and somehow he still *gasp* found me attractive.
|
| ^^ I should clarify: I like gay guys (they are super fun) but those in the fashion industry are waaay too invested in what straight women wear on their feet. In my experience, straight guys don't care that much as long as they get laid. |
| I wear flats almost exclusively outside of the office. But at work I'm in heels most days. They give me a boost of confidence. and they look great with my workwear! I wear Toms on the drive to and from the office and keep my heels in the car. |
I agree with this. I actually find flats less comfortable unless we're talking about something that looks orthopedic or more like a running shoe. Ballet flats are the worst for me -- cute to look at but my arches ache and my legs feel awful after wearing ballet flats all day long. They also pinch my size 11 toes.

This is true for me as well. I have not yet found a pair of comfortable flats that I can wear for more than 2 hours. Mid-level heels are the most comfortable and relatively easy to find. And any high heel shoes from the stores like DSW will never be comfortable, because they are too cheaply made (I am not against cheap, it is just a fact). Plus, each type of shoe should be worn to appropriate places. I hate seeing people coming to a theater in jeans and sneakers, so tasteless. I wish there would be a better choice of flats with good arch support and reasonably priced. |
| Because without, DH and I are same height. ANY amount of heel makes me taller, which was ok when I wasn't carrying so much weight. Now I just feel bulky next to him. Not good for my selfesteem. |
| Love flats. A lot of cute/comfy ones out there. |
+1, OP. You try walking the streets of DC in heels and come back and tell me how much fun it is. |
Seriously? For comfort? Because I'm 8 months pregnant and heels make me fall over? Because I have to walk half a mile during my morning commute? Take your pick, crazy lady. |
I buy superfeet insoles (the black ones for dress shoes) and I take them with me flat shopping. Get a half size up from your usual size and stick the insoles in your shoes. Voila- you have comfortable flat shoes with arch supports. My podiatrist recommended this and I thank him every day. Superfeet insoles can be found at REI, amazon, etc. |
| Also a fan of superfeet. I wear them with my converse! |
| I think cute flats look great if you have nice ankles and legs. |
I am the OP and work full-time in the District, so I have experience with that, as well as with chasing around 2 kids. It is possible to find comfortable heels that you can walk in. I stand by my opinion that flats look terrible on people unless they have skinny calves and ankles. And I also stand by my opinion that they look juvenile on people over the age of 30. I will concede that some flats look ok if you're wearing a wide-legged pant. |
