They don't hurt.
On me, they do. I need arch support, that's why I always wear mid-level heels.
I agree with this. I actually find flats less comfortable unless we're talking about something that looks orthopedic or more like a running shoe. Ballet flats are the worst for me -- cute to look at but my arches ache and my legs feel awful after wearing ballet flats all day long. They also pinch my size 11 toes. :(
This is true for me as well. I have not yet found a pair of comfortable flats that I can wear for more than 2 hours. Mid-level heels are the most comfortable and relatively easy to find. And any high heel shoes from the stores like DSW will never be comfortable, because they are too cheaply made (I am not against cheap, it is just a fact). Plus, each type of shoe should be worn to appropriate places. I hate seeing people coming to a theater in jeans and sneakers, so tasteless. I wish there would be a better choice of flats with good arch support and reasonably priced.
I buy superfeet insoles (the black ones for dress shoes) and I take them with me flat shopping. Get a half size up from your usual size and stick the insoles in your shoes. Voila- you have comfortable flat shoes with arch supports. My podiatrist recommended this and I thank him every day. Superfeet insoles can be found at REI, amazon, etc.
