s/o: Popular Thanksgiving foods you cannot stand

Turkey. Green bean casserole. Pecan pie.
Love stuffing, mashed potatoes, creamed spinach, sweet potatoes (but NOT with mushrooms), cranberry sauce (both homemade and can-shaped), pumpkin pie, and Alka Seltzer.

I am sooo jealous, I could scream!

Creamed onions will never appear on my table. I try to live an onion-free life.

Pecan pie is so syrupy...thick glutinous nastiness that ruins pecans which are so lovely.

Any sort of sweetness added to savory food is unappealing. Sweet potatoes don't need sugar!

Don't get me started on raspberry vinagrette, cranberries and other fruit in salad. Gah.

I'm from the Midwest and have never even heard of creamed onions. Must be an east coast thing.

What do you substitute instead?

Not the PP, but instead of turkey you can get ham, Cornish game hens, chicken. Some people might even do fish.

Instead of pumpkin pie, you can do pecan.

AKA instead of Thanksgiving you can have Christmas.

Well, if you're cooking for your own family, I don't really care what you have to eat. But if I'm coming for dinner, I want the green bean casserole!

It's a Southern thing. Like many Southern things, it's an acquired taste.

Get it from Costco and it's much much cheaper (still expensive but less than it would be)

Blanche a bag of frozen pearl onions,

They sell frozen pearl onions? Already peeled?

My post-Thanksgiving pot pie just got 100x easier.

I think you are wrong, did you see all the replies from north easterners saying it was a tradition for them?

And their wine section is located conveniently right next to their meat section.

As a child, I hated stuffing, anything with sweet potatoes (was convinced they tasted like cooked carrots which I still hate) and the cream pies my grandmother made but she put merengue on top. My family never did green bean casserole so I can easily take it or leave it.

I now love sweet potatoes, casserole or otherwise (no marshmallows!), recently discovered I love cornbread stuffing and I even like Brussels sprouts. Although the only green thing on today's menu is a scalloped broccoli/corn casserole. I do have some asparagus I might quickly roast up to have something healthier but it's just us and I can save it to eat with some turkey leftovers.

Sweet potatoes and marshmallows - yuck.
Cranberry sauce of any kind... I'm just not a fan.
