s/o: Popular Thanksgiving foods you cannot stand

I LOATHE the sweet potato stuff with marshmallows and other sweet stuff. I hate pecan pie (also too sweet). I hate brussels sprouts. I got food poisoning off of a turkey sandwich one year, and don't like to look at turkey (it was bad mayo, but my brain still hates the turkey). I didn't grow up with the green bean casserole stuff, but it doesn't sound good.

Of course, I cook whatever needs cooking. I try not to host, but go somewhere else and bring some sides that I do like. This year, I'm making a broccoli and breadcrumbs dish that my grandmother used to make, mac and cheese for the kids, and my mother's sausage stuffing. I usually come home the next day and cook some chicken breasts with a poultry-seasoning flavor to have our own "leftovers" of stuff we do like.

Could you share the broccoli and breadcrumbs dish?

I hate the layered jello salad. Yuck!

Turkey!

I actually really love the sweet potatoes with marshmallows. Love so much.

What I can't stand is that green bean/fried onion casserole. Thank goodness no one else in the family likes it either. And I don't like any kind of white bread stuffing, esp. if it has sausage in it. And, don't tell my grandmother, but I'm not the world's biggest fan of her oyster dressing.

Yes the creamed onions, yuck!
I have a Cuban friend whose mom does a big pork roast and they play dominoes all afternoon-I should just go to their house, not a fan of any of our food

Oh I loved creamed onions! And I like canned cranberry sauce too, even though we always make fresh - we serve both.

Hate HATE the green bean casserole with the soup/fried onions. EW. We do green bean almondine.

Also despise marshmellows on sweet potatoes or candied yams or anything too-sweet sweet potato dish. We do it with butter and salt, or with a touch of maple syrup and top with candied pecans and craisins.

^ also pretty much hate anything topped with ritz crackers or with cream-of-anything soup. Or velveeta. Gross.

LOL. My favorite Thanksgiving dish growing up was broccoli casserole my mom made- frozen broccoli, minute rice, cream of mushroom and CHEEZ WHIZ. I know how it sounds but I LOVE that stuff.

I dislike the sweet potato mush with marshmallows on top. We do candied yams and they are SO much better.

Last year I made Beef Wellington instead of turkey and dark chocolate/pecan pie instead of pumpkin-it was amazing!

Oh, wow. Would you mind sharing your recipes?

I used this Beef Wellington recipe. It is a lot of steps, but not difficult. I didn't do the sauce or sides.

I use the chocolate pecan pie recipe from joy of cooking. It is very rich, but tastes less sweet than regular pecan pie.

I love the green bean casserole! So much so that I make it at other times during the year. Sometimes I had chicken and pasta to it to make it more of a meal.

I love the green bean casserole....when I make it for Thanksgiving, always wonder why I don't do it another time or 2 in year.

But I hate anything with sweet potatoes / yams (used to tell my mom I didn't like orange food)

And hate all forms of cranberry sauce too

sauerkraut. (Traditional if you are from Baltimore)

The only people who eat it are my mom and her sisters, and I suspect they are doing it out of fondness for their childhoods. Everyone else takes a small spoonful and pushes it around on their plates.

Hate pumpkin pie. I never made it, except now my 4-year old is obsessed with pumpkin pie, so I'll probably bite the bullet and make one. Although I see her taking one bite and hating it, so it will probably go to waste. Maybe I'll make a mini pie
