s/o: Popular Thanksgiving foods you cannot stand

Anonymous
Another thread about Thanksgiving foods for non-Americans got me thinking about the above. I'm American but have never liked any of the following dishes that my DH's middle-class WASPY family enjoys:

Mashed sweet potatos with marshmallows (blech! -- so much rather have a baked or roasted sweet potato dish)

Jello Molds (gross!)

Mashed Turnips (I like them pan roasted)

Blueberry or Peach Pie (too sweet)

So what about you? Are there traditional foods you cannot tolerate??

Agree with the sweet potatoes and marshmallows. Gross. I never liked them even as a kid.

Blueberry and peach pie are not traditional Thanksgiving pies--they are summer fruit.

We haven't done Jello or mashed turnips.

Normally, I would find green beans and mushroom soup with fried onions on top gross--just by the way it sounds--but I love this traditional Thanksgiving dish.

I dislike the casseroles, period. Give me steamed green beans, plain corn, and a baked sweet potato. But I was raised in central Ohio.

Turkey

Pumpkin pie

I happen to dislike that cranberry jelly you buy for the turkey. I do like fresh cranberry compote -- my family makes a good one with orange juice added which is very refreshing.

What do you substitute instead?

Not the PP, but instead of turkey you can get ham, Cornish game hens, chicken. Some people might even do fish.

Instead of pumpkin pie, you can do pecan.

Last year I made Beef Wellington instead of turkey and dark chocolate/pecan pie instead of pumpkin-it was amazing!

I want to say that while I hate all of the sweet sides and am not a fan of pie of any sort-I have discovered stuffing. It is not something I had growing up but I LOVE it. This year I am making three kinds-traditional, a leek/mushroom one and a sweeter one with dried berries and seeds...maybe bc it is reminiscent of kugels that I like it so much?

I cannot stand cranberry sauce from a can. I always make it fresh and it takes 5 minutes max. How hard is it?
I also hate casseroles and prefer sauteed veggies.

I hate fresh cranberry sauce. If it doesn't come from a can and still look like the can when it's served to me, I am not interested.

I'll eat the sweet potatoes with marshmallows, but it's not my favorite. Thankfully, my family doesn't ever make it.

I still serve them, but I think they are gross. Others don't seem to share my tastes.
