No defense necessary. "Appointment"? Besides, it was 3 cycles ago. Move on. |
| Can BO move it or MLK Day to Tuesday? He is, afterall, the most powerful human being on earth thanks to the good people of America. That should count for something. |
Yeah, Columbus and Jesus Christ, bloody furriners... |
Well the Constitution says their term (pres and vp) is over at noon on Jan 20th. So I guess that would make Boehner president until we get around to swearing in Obama again. You can bet John Roberts will write down the oath this time. |
| In 1985, Ronald Reagan was sworn in privately on Sunday, January 20, then the public ceremony was on Monday, January 21. That's the deal. It was so incredibly cold that Monday in 1985 that most of the events had to be held indoors, so most of the people who held tickets to watch the inauguration were out of luck. |

I know! Is everyone here less than 35?! |
So why wouldn't the feds just telecommute? |
You don't get how we're living in a PC world and need a holiday honoring a black person? |

This is exactly what happens when Inauguration Day falls on Sunday. A private, low-key swearing in is held at the White House and Monday they do the whole thing over just for show along with parades, balls and all the other stuff. Per the Constitution, a president's term starts at 12 Noon on January 20th, regardless if he takes the oath or not. It will not and cannot be moved or changed. It is the way it has always been done, and always will be done. |
