If i can recall correctly 4 yrs ago, inauguration fell on a tues after MLK so the feds had a 4 day weekend.

Are they having the parties and stuff on the 20th? I thought they were swearing in on the 20th privately and doing the hoopla on the 21st.

Does Google pick up amendment 20 of the constitution. "The terms of the President and the Vice President shall end at noon on the 20th day of January"


The "public observance of the inauguration" -- the parades, balls, etc. -- will be on the 21st, but the actual inauguration will need to be on the 20th. That's how I read it.

What I want to know- as a federal worker- is whether we will get off early or completely on December 24th. The last time it was on a Monday we got the whole day off.

I don't think that is right. The balls and parades for the inauguration will still take place on the 20th but the official observance of the inauguration holiday will be on Monday the 21st. Basically everyone will have one day off in observance of two holidays.

I'm not a fed and I always get MLK off. What sorts of places don't do that--private sector?

My Fed office is closed the day after Thanksgiving, December 24, 2012, and December 31, 2012.

My office doesn't let us take off whenever we want- so only a certain number of people get that day off. But if the government is closed then we all get off....
