haha Not lazy enough to post this useful tidbit to all the Feds. BTW, was it the abbreviations? |
| If i can recall correctly 4 yrs ago, inauguration fell on a tues after MLK so the feds had a 4 day weekend. |
Yes, that is probably what OP is complaining about -- no extra day off (on top of MLK day). |
So glad Feds only get one holiday - excellent. |
|
Are they having the parties and stuff on the 20th? I thought they were swearing in on the 20th privately and doing the hoopla on the 21st.
|
| It must really annoy the ant-fed posters when feds get the day off for the national day of mourning when a former president dies. |
Yes it does. My DH always parties hearty that day. Whew, Nixon's was the most out of control. |
The "public observance of the inauguration" -- the parades, balls, etc. -- will be on the 21st, but the actual inauguration will need to be on the 20th. That's how I read it. |
| What I want to know- as a federal worker- is whether we will get off early or completely on December 24th. The last time it was on a Monday we got the whole day off. |
| Fed "worker" - why aren't you "working" |
Have you already used up all your use or lose annual? |
I don't think that is right. The balls and parades for the inauguration will still take place on the 20th but the official observance of the inauguration holiday will be on Monday the 21st. Basically everyone will have one day off in observance of two holidays. |
| I'm not a fed and I always get MLK off. What sorts of places don't do that--private sector? |
My Fed office is closed the day after Thanksgiving, December 24, 2012, and December 31, 2012. Yippee!

My office doesn't let us take off whenever we want- so only a certain number of people get that day off. But if the government is closed then we all get off.... |
