It's hard to listen to kind people speak when you are not used to it.

I listen to kind people all the time and am kind myself! I'm not saying she wasn't kind, I'm saying her speech was awful. --- It's my opinion, I'm entitled to that aren't I?

She isn't a politician. The fact that she didn't spend millions on learning to speak like Obama should tell you that she is a real person. She was speaking from the heart. I wonder why people expect so much out of the wife of the candidate. Who cares if she isn't polished. She was pretty brave to get up and speak in front of so many people. Truth is you would hate her speech even if she sounded like Oprah. Because you don't agree with her husbands politics.
Really, Obama spent millions on classes in public speaking? Wow, call Fox News!

No doofus, but that is probably how much it would cost for someone like ME or even Ann Romney to sound like OBAMA.

I'm pointing out the hypocrisy of those Republicans who tout the "legal" immigration of their ancestors when their ancestors had built-in advantages. And, no I haven't heard Romney say that but I've heard plenty of other folks say that. If you descended from Western European stock who immigrated at that time, your family got special treatment, and you shouldn't use your family origins as an argument in the current immigration debate.

And, again, the pps were correct. A Welshman could get into the United States at that time much more easily than an Asian or an Eastern European or an Italian. However, it appears, according to wikipedia, that there were no restrictions on Latin American countries so the pp may have been wrong about a Mexican having difficulty entering at that time.

It's not hypocrisy. Advantages may have existed, but legal and illegal are still constructs. There are still in place quotas on how many immigrants can come from a given country in a given year. Is it hypocrisy to come legally from one of these countries instead of illegally from Mexico?

In fact, with regards to Republications, I'd say it's not hypocrisy at all. They are for strict immigration controls and are making the point that they themselves came legally. It would be much harder to take a hard line on immigration if your family snuck into the country.
But the point is that what was "legal" for people like Ann Romney's father was discriminatory. They may have played by the rules but all the rules were bent and constructed in their favor so it wasn't so hard to play by the rules. They ended up getting unfair advantages over other people. Frankly, nowadays that is completely contrary to what Americans believe in. We believe in equal treatment based on national origin so I'm glad that things have changed.

Hey it used to be illegal in some states for people to marry interracially. Are we going to look back on couples from that era and say, hey people who married within racial lines followed the law and did it legally? People who married across racial lines did it illegally so they should be sanctioned!

Like I said, my family got lots of preference when it came to immigration to the United States because of their British origin. I'm not going to apologize for it but I'm also not going to pretend that my family followed the "rules" that other families didn't when the rules were all laid down to benefit them.

No, not really. It "is" wild, but so is most religion.

Who cares what she thinks? We are not voting for 1st lady.

Still undecided voters, and I hate that they think listening to someone's wife will help me decide.

I know, it annoys me to no end.

Tried to copy and paste but it seems that only the link pasted. Look at her right earring, granted I'm a Democrat so perhaps my vision is skewed in relation to the Romney's, but it looks like a very large gold dollar $ sign to me.

Actually they look like graduated ovals. Don't even look like gold, they look like brass or copper. Grow up..

Thank you for your mature and well reasoned metallurgical analysis of Ann Romney's earrings. Graduated oval schmoval -- on television and to a slightly lesser in the picture pasted on this thread, her right earring bears a striking resemblance to a large gold dollar $ sign.

Ten dollars says the producers of Saturday Night Live will see it from that angle as well and will add it to a skit about the convention.

No. He prefers a teleprompter.

I really dislike false equivalencies when it comes to religions. Mormonism was founded by a con man, if one is being charitable, a treasonous criminal if one is not. It is not a religion but a cult-like business, urging its patrons to earn evermore, because, contrary to Jesus's actual teachings, according to their higher ups, having more money is always good. They then reap the required 10% tithe and pour it into money making schemes, like the brand new 5 billion dollar in SLC, rather than charity (an admittedly biased site, www.exmormon.org, has lots of info and stories). Mormons are some of the kindest and smuggest people I have ever met. Mitt's beliefs, in as much as Mormonism is a "whole life" church most certainly pertain.

Me too. Because no other public speaker - and certainly none on the convention stage these last few days have ever used a teleprompter.

I thought she did a great job. She looks like a first lady... Classic and likeable. i admire the fact that Romney created a successful co ( Bain took over FAILING companies) and in many cases saved and created more jobs...I like her and I like Mitt Romney even more.
