Seriously. Mitt Romney is teased amongst his sons for being "frugal". They're not glitzy people. He's a self-made man and he worked hard for it - took a huge risk - why the hate? Isn't what he did what American is all about? Agree or disagree with the politics - I'm still undecided.... but why does the fact that he's been successful in life seem to be a point of contention??? Aren't those type of stories what we want to hear MORE of and should be encouraging?

But as far as Romney being rich, it's insulated him from what most Americans experience every day. He may have lived in a basement apartment, but there was no way in hell his dad would have ever let him get put out on the streets if he failed. Most of America doesn't have that safety net. He may have built a business, but it's MUCH easier to do so when you come from wealth. And, speaking as a person who grew up poor and was poor throughout my 20s,but who is now considered part of the top 5% in income, I know that "I" have lost touch to a significant degree with how lower income people struggle EVERY DAY. I can't imagine Romney ever knew.

And by the way, as an independent voter I can tell you one of the major issues that is turning me off in regards to the Democratic party right now is this notion that people who are wealthy, who have been successfull, should somehow feel ashamed of themselves. Somehow they are not qualified because they have not suffered enough. Wealth, entrepreneurism and ambition are bad. It is a huge sticking point for me. Of course, there are many issues that are also sticking points for me on the R side.

Oh yes, John Kerry and Al Gore were much better representatives of the poors.

Not sure of your point there - just because they were Democrats so I should have voted for them? I didn't.

No, it's not because they haven't suffered enough. It's because they don't want to give back enough. If at all. There's no shame in being rich, per se, but there should be shame in doing it on the backs of poor people.

She just seems real to me. She hasn't had an easy road- miscarriages, breast cancer, ms - those things give one perspective. Raising five boys while being married to a man who works all the time in very high-profile positions is no easy task, and it seems she's kept her family incredibly close/grounded while dealing with the throws of life.

Yes, and that's why "you people" (insert arm wave here) have all the information you need re: tax returns.

I'm undecided because I am extremely unhappy with Obama right now- completely disappointed. He's done nothing but separate this country further. I am also not a fan of Mitt Romney. I have to decide who I think will be the lesser of two evils.

Independent here, I didn't like all of her speech, but I think she had guts for getting up there. So e of her points were strong. I thought she giggled to much, but she was probably nervous.

I thought she was fine. Who cares, really? Chris Christie was terrible. I expected a much better speech from him. It was mostly tooting his own horn and he came off as angry and bitter. I think his star power will start to dim.

Well, I thought her performance was fine, but the content was so lame and pandering. My Democratic husband was offended by all of her insisting that moms work harder than dads to take care of the family, which in our house (and that of many of our friends) is just BS. Perhaps that's her view b/c she was a SAHM, but she can't really speak on behalf of all the moms and dads who work two jobs while balancing their kids, their home and their marriage. No matter how hard she tries, she just sounds like she has no idea what she's talking about. Because she doesn't.
