Are there styles you consider off limits after 40?

I'll continue to wear my sleeveless shirts so I can show you all my fabulous 50-year-old arms which look better today than they did 10 years ago, and certainly better than they did when I was 28 and hadn't started to exercise yet. I promise, however, never to reveal my stomach because - even though it's strong and thin- it lost some elasticity during my pregnancies. So, no bikinis.

...and yet you cared enough to respond!

So, if all of us over 40 have this type of skin, who cares what we wear? If it's the nature of things, why not just wear what looks good on your proportions and not worry about it. It's not like we're trying to be 20.

There's hot, and there's "mature woman trying to be 22"- which is so not hot.

I.e. "mutton dressed as lamb." not a good look for anyone.

Even the most toned women have this after 40. It's natural, but I intend to hide it, no matter the temperature and RH!

I don't understand why women can't embrace the aging process. Sheesh! if everyone gets the ladyskin - even the most toned women - then why should EVERYONE be embarrassed to wear sleevless tops? It makes no sense! you're old, so cover up!!! It's what's wrong with our society.

I agree - these types of discussions are so insulting and degrading to women.
As if the sum of who we are is defined by the skin on our arms or as if life is all downhill after 40. OP, invest in some confidence.

my personal rule of thumb is that anything I wore in the eighties, I won't revisit. Other than that, at 48 I am fit, fairly wrinkle free (genetics and sunscreen), and I most certainly wear sundresses, sleeveless tops, etc. Sheesh, it's not like I'm a decomposing corpse for heaven's sake!

What's with the tone in this thread about people's moms? "did she work?" "she's only 48?"

Geez ladies, you can make nasty from anything.

Long, un-styled hair. I don't think turning 40 means you need to run right out and chop your hair off. But if you're going to keep your hair long, at least have a decent style to it.
