Want to buy myself a splurge gift

Spa Day at the Four Seasons, including brunch or lunch alone there (with a good book) and ample time in the sauna and steam room. Then dinner with DH or friends somewhere good.

I hate the Tory Burch pants (that orange stripe is horrid), but the rest are gorgeous.

OP, I splurge on shoes (Manolos, Jimmy Choos, Valentinos) occasionally but only when they are on super sale at Neimans or Barneys. Maybe "splurge" on something on sale?

Plane tickets to visit an out of town friend! Leave DH with the kids.

I would buy a nice piece of jewelry.

I want to buy myself a nice splurge gift. I was thinking ipad but am trying to think more broadly. Budget $500 (so the ipad is slightly over). Don't want a new bag or purse. Am thinking a great pair of shoes? Jewelry? Would love any suggestions .

If you have to think this hard about what you might want, you are very fortunate indeed and should pass altogether on spending the money (or make a donation in a way that feels good to you).

I had to think very hard about what I wanted for a milestone birthday. So hard, in fact, that I concluded that I wanted for nothing, and therefore decided to forego a gift altogether. Instead, we had a dinner party for close friends and toasted our good fortune.

My .02.

Well, a lot of the happiness research suggests that in the long run, experiences make us happier than objects. So let's think really broadly, OP. Several years ago, I had a neighbor who had always wanted to visit the Metropolitan Museum of Art in NYC. (We were living in Austin, TX at the time). One day, she bought a plane ticket and she went. She left at 6 am, was on the ground in NYC by 9 am, and spent the day going to the Museum and a few other sights. Then came home that night on the 8 pm flight -- home in TX by 11 pm. No hotel expenses, no need to line up more than a day's worth of childcare -- and I doubt she'll ever forget it. I know the rest of us won't! Are there any places you've ever wanted to go to, that you could reasonably fly there and back in one day?

That is awesome! I love the days where you wake up in one place and then spend the day somewhere completely different. However, I had never thought of going for just the day! Waking up in Texas, exploring NYC, and then going to sleep in Texas would be fabulous!

A new purse.

And a spa day.

I love to cook so I recently rewarded myself to some le creuset pots that I have been wanting. The whole family benefits too!

Perhaps there is a $500 pair of flip flops for the warm weather?
Not quite flip flops (or $500), but these are really cute:

Only if you're a bourgeois label whore.

I don't get it either, I think I'm missing something.

Put simply, city dwellers making snide comments about suburbanites. Typically, those that wet their panties over their zip code obviously grew up in Missouri or some place like that. They have made it! -- in their fugly overpriced capri pants from Neimans -- meanwhile momma back home is humping it working second shift at the twinkie factory.

Well Snarky, there's a label in your clothes too, it says "Wal Mart".

For 500$ it's not really a splurge. It would be a microscopical diamond for this price. I like the idea of going away for the weekend or shoes or nice bag.
