Am I delusional, or do I actually look good in shorts?

Plenty of 30-something (and 40-something) women take care of themselves and look great in shorts. You are probably one of them! The trick is that generally as you get older, your shorts should/will probably get longer. I'm a big fan of Bermudas now that I'm pushing 40. (I run 20+ miles/week and lift weights, so I still have good legs, though I'm getting more vein issues on the thighs - hence the bermudas.) I have no shame about running in normal/short running shorts.

For every person walking around thinking "that person shouldn't wear shorts because no one looks good in shorts," there is someone like me looking at them thinking "what kid of idiot wears long pants in hot weather?"

If you think you look good, you probably look good. I'm 40. I still wear shorts - the second it gets hot. I tend to go with the longer ones now. Some styles look better than others. But when I'm doing yardwork or playing with my kid, function always come first.

love these idiotic posts. how dare we give opinions about shorts! how dare we decide if OP looks okay! oh wait, THAT WAS HER QUESTION.

So I ask - what is the alternative to shorts? If capris are a no-no, shorts are out, and I'm sorry I don't see how bending down to pick up Billy in a SKIRT is any more modest than in shorts (get real), what are we to do? And would you really rather see me (and smell me) sweating in jeans or other long pants? Next you'll be telling me that my arms are too fat to wear short sleeves.

I'm sorry 14:36, but I hear your arms are too fat for short sleeves. Do you have any long sleeved sweaters that go well with the jeans? I hear layering a scarf might look cute -- maybe add a hat as well to accessorize? Don't forget to grab some gloves to avoid sun damage on your hands....

Haha, good one pp. Seriously...I guess I have to wear jeans and boots in the summer (since I have fat little toes with little ugly nails) and at this point where does it stop? These threads are ridiculous! If its 90 degrees out, I am not going to care what I look like because I will be melting!

I'm not complaining about shorts, but if you are bending over to pick up Billy in such a way that you feel immodest, then you are picking him up in a way that could hurt your back. You should use your legs to lift. Thus, wearing a skirt should not equal a peep show.

I got news for you - even if you bend at the knees there's a potential peep show.

No, not really - unless you are wearing patent leather shoes.

I'm a fattie with no self confidence, and I really like a fitted pedal-pusher (hits JUST below the knee). I hate my knees, and my fat thighs, so shorts are out, but I look silly in most capris because I am also short. But I've found the pedal pushers tend to solve most of those problems. Alternatively I'll wear a knee length skirt with bike shorts underneath.

I'm 55 and feel and look much younger. Who made up all of these dumb 'rules' that you can't wear such and such after a certain age? I wear shorts and I love them.

I wear shorts in my 40s and look great. When it gets hot, who cares, wear shorts, take care of yourselves and make sure your legs are shaved. This is DC after all, it's not Saudi Arabia wear women can barely show their faces.

If you feel good in shorts, wear them! If you don't feel good in shorts, don't wear them!
