Ha AWESOME!!! |
| What am I missing? What are we supposed to wear outside in the hot summer months if we aren't supposed to wear shorts? I'm not saying I look good in shorts, but I wear long shorts, and in the swampy DC summer daytime, I'm not looking to wear jeans or capris all the time. |
| First of all, shorts are not the fashion faux-pas they used to be. Stylish shorts with a tank and sandals by day and heels and a summer blazer by night are in style right now. No matter your age. If you can rock the shorts and they aren't tight or too short, I say go for it. Washingtonians need to stop being so conservative and bland in their fashion choices. |

I am 32, 5'2 110 lbs, 3 kids, nice legs and i wear the same JCrew Shorts all the time with flats. I Look good and my Husband thinks the same! |
| It all depends on your legs. I am 5'4" and fit and trim at 120 lbs from lots and lots of Yoga. In most clothes - women would envy me and men are always admiring my shape ( I will admit) .......however - once the clothes are off - my legs are nasty. It's a bummer. They are flabby in spite of the yoga and toning - just because of age (I'm 45) and gravity. I have terrible varicose veins and spider veins and I have cellulite which I am stuck with! That said - you won't see me in shorts - you will see me in cute long, flowing skirts. lightweight, linen slacks, etc. It's a bummer. I wish I had solid, muscular, tanned and toned legs. But I do not. If I did - I would show them off - at any age. I have friends with great legs who envy my toned midriff and biceps........which I show off in tank tops, sexy maxi-dresses, etc......so whatever you got - flaunt it! |

What a bunch of rigid, uptight bitches.
Shorts are not a faux pas or something horrendous. IT'S FUCKING HOT around here in the summer. There is nothing wrong with shorts. Who are all of you who think that your 30s or 40s mean you have a foot in the grave and can't possibly look good in anything? Maybe YOU can't but OP sounds like she can rock a pair of shorts. As for the "it depends" . . . that holds true whether you are talking shorts, pants, skirts, anything. You will look best not in what is trendy but what looks good for your body type. OP, you will be fine. And know that most people are not the wretches responding on this thread. |
| wow - who wants to wear a skirt to the park to chase Billy? |

I think shorts look great on people with nice legs, and certainly have no problem with anyone wearing them in hot weather -- not that you should care what I or anyone else thinks! I love my mid-length shorts and pretty much live in them in the summer, when not at work. Capri pants, on the other hand, I do not like at all, on pretty much anyone. They do not have a nice proportion relative to the rest of the body. But again, that's just my opinion. I think everyone should wear what they like!
I am more curious as to why you would wear a cami under the T-shirt, especially in hot weather? If it is a crappy, thin, Old Navy t-shirt, I guess I undertand, but the one OP posted is a nice one from Boden. I just don't get the "layering" thing, especially in the summer. If you aren't in the workplace, why worry about showing some cleavage? Just interested to hear people's thoughts on this, not criticizing! |

i'm 31, 5'4", 105 pounds and wear shorts all the time in the summer.
i was also wondering the same thing as OP b/c i've come across shorts haters on this forum. glad to know that shorts are fine! |
OP here! I actually wouldn't wear one if it were any hotter. It's just that I ordered a bunch of those Boden t shirts and, because I am petite, it is more than low cut...my bra shows! I was too lazy to return, so I've been layering them with camis. The way I go through T shits, I'll be ready for more by the time it is really hot (and this time I'm going for Banana Republic petites). |

So - who gets to judge who looks good in what? Why on earth do some people act like everything is a fashion show? For every person walking around thinking "that person shouldn't wear shorts because no one looks good in shorts," there is someone like me looking at them thinking "what kid of idiot wears long pants in hot weather?"
If you think you look good, you probably look good. I'm 40. I still wear shorts - the second it gets hot. I tend to go with the longer ones now. Some styles look better than others. But when I'm doing yardwork or playing with my kid, function always come first. |

i really like the look of longer shorts. I think they generally look much better on women then capris do (which almost always are not flattering and even dowdy.

I look like sh*t in shorts and bathing suits. I still wear them.
I am not a fan of seeing certain things in public, but I just turn my head and within a few minutes, the "trauma" I succumbed has passed. I wish the same for you if you happen to get a glance of my legs. |

OP, I am your height, weigh a bit more, work out a lot and wear shorts in the summer because they're comfortable (i'm usually wearing them to the park and damned if I'm wearing jeans or a skirt to chase my inevitably filthy kid) and because they actually show off my relatively long legs (relatively because Im still short, but have long legs for my body). Shorter shorts, with a sandal with a bit of a heel and a cute shirt can be put together and still casual.
to the person who suggested longer shorts and a baggier shirt--now that sounds like a frumpy look. |
