Am I delusional, or do I actually look good in shorts?

I ask because, it seems as though there are many a shorts-haters around here. I've seen statements thrown around like, shorts don't look good on anyone, of all the polished women I know, none wear shorts, etc. I'd like you to tell me if you think I'm possibly kidding myself, or if it is indeed possible that shorts look cute on me. Do they REALLY not look good on anyone?

First, I'm a SAHM. I have a 9 month-old and a 2 year-old. I am 30, almost 31. 5'2 and 105 lbs and in good shape. I have nice legs, and I wear the shorts short. 3 1/2 inches, cuffed, with a fitted t shirt, and flat sandals and a cute tote from Boden. Do you think it is possible that I don't look schlumpy?

Sure, if you look 16.

You look fine! I just bought a short pair from jcrew and they are adorable. I dont think everyone can pull off shorts but you are young and tiny. Enjoy them!

I don't know, honey. You may look good but sometimes that isn't the point. The point is to dress your age and your place in life. So if you are 19 and hanging around the Rave or G&G in the mall you are probably ok. But if you are bending over the seesaw to pick up toddler while maneuvering baby in Rose Park, then maybe you should just get some skinny jeans. Know what I mean?

They aren't that short! 3 1/2" short on a 5'2 girl is actually modest.

How are shorts not age appropriate for someone who is 30? When did this movement happen? Im 28 and wear shorts with toned nice tan legs and look good. Im not wearing bootie shorts or jean cut offs but womens shorts.

Op- no need to ask this knowing you are going to get snarky comments. If you look good then go for it!

I hate the way shorts are made these days and I think very few women look good in shorts. I would prefer skirts over shorts but that is just me. There is something about a woman's backside that I think makes it look unattractive but that is just me.

If it is hot, women should be able to wear shorts. Maybe they are not the greatest look in the world for most people, but they look moderately ok on many.

OP - no offense but what you describe sounds a bit trashy/teenybopper to me. If you'd meant 5 or 7 inch shorts I would've been on board. And I say this as someone thinner and younger than you...

Well, I am almost 38 (but am regularly told I look 28-30) and overweight and I wear shorts! They are knee length though. I walk A LOT (5 miles a day is pretty standard) and frankly I don't care if some random stranger thinks I do or don't look good. When it's hot and I am outside with the kids, I'm going to dress for the weather. I wear knee length twill shorts from Eddie Bauer with a coordinating polo shirt and footwear to match the activity.

Personally I hate shorts, I don't have the legs for them. But I don't have any problem with other people wearing them, I don't get the shorts haters.

I wouldn't wear shorts to work, church, or dinner parties. I must wear them the rest of the time in order to deal with these terrible summers.

Very, very, few of the women I see in shorts look even decent. It is almost traumatic to witness the parade of white piano legs around my area as soon as the thermometer tops 50ยบ.
Myself included--although mine are skinny and toned--I feel ridiculous walking around that way unless the temps are in the 90's. Longs shorts always--just above the knees at least. Unless you're 25 and have runner's legs NO ONE wants to look at your fleshy thighs and bulgy knees rubbing together! It's DISGUSTING!

I wonder what the 30+ moms in Florida, Socal and Hawaii think.
