nothing we do in the USA will stop the increase in CO2. deal. |

Climate change is hard science not flimsy theory. You can consume how you see fit, but face the music. It might be hard to swallow but it is real. I'm sorry.
|
Because Americans have never made big changes before? We've never been out in front on big social issues? Please! I am deeply patriotic and believe that American greatness is in our leadership in important issues. Your fatalism is both sad and unamerican. deal. |
Are you planning to live in this vehicle? What do you bring with you when you go on trips? You know, families manged to go on long car trips decades ago before the invention of the SUV. And they didn't go naked. |
because last I checked, China, India, Brazil, Mexico, Chile, etc., are not American states. Nothing we can do can stop the increase in global CO2. We can cut out emissions 50% and the global increase will still be huge. |
Maybe not directly. But indirectly, we can cut down on our consumption and demand for goods imported from other countries. Less demand, less supply and less output of harmful emissions at the factories that produce those goods. |
| Why can't a car company make a larger vehicle that gets good gas mileage?!?!?!? Like the clean diesel European engines, which have the power to move larger vehicles but use half the gas. NOT hybrid, which doesn't work for larger vehicles, or electric, which just burns tons of fossil fuels at the electrical plant instead of in the car itself. I would be all over such a car if someone would just make one and sell it in the US. |
| I'm surprised no one has mentioned yet that OP get a minivan. If you're planning on having more children, OP, a minivan is the way to go. |

The argument that reducing CO2 is a lost cause because of China is bunk... China is way out in front on clean energy investment.

meaningless small numbers. They also are outspending the rest of the world on new diesel and new coal powerplants. CO2 levels would rise even if a tidal wave knocked the USA off the map. |
|
If, god forbid, the US was "knocked of the map" China would come to a screeching halt.
We are 11th in per capita CO2 emissions behind some tiny middle eastern countries... China is 80th. As far as personal choice makes a difference it's all on us. |
|
per capita is a silly tool to use.
If the DC metro area had horrible smog, would it make any difference if Falls Church City unilaterally cut emissions if MD, Fairfax, Arlington and DC continued to increase their emissions? No. |
I have a minivan and the mileage is horrible, I had a Yukon about ten year ago, the two vehicles probably cost me the same in gas each week and I am now a stay at home mom, not commuting to work. |
