How long did it take you to conceive?

OF COURSE replies to a message board are not going to be "representative" of any population. This thread is subject to self-selection bias - it's not like this is a statistical sample of a target population that can be used to generalize trends in fertility. This is just a chat and replies should not be taken further than that!

Sorry, I work in the survey research field and felt like the "this is not typical" replies were starting to state the obvious too much.

I'm 32 and got pregnant the first time/cycle we tried.

Third cycle was the charm. I was 26 and was paying attention to when I would be ovulating -- "Trying" with a capital T.

Took us about 5-6 months, which seemed like forever at the time, but I hear is pretty average. Have to be honest, the OPKs made me feel like I was stupid (is this positive? its a little darker, but not much... etc etc). I found that BBT made a lot more sense -- plus I could use the charting system at fertilityfriend.com. Its a great TTC site (esp if you are big into data, which I am), but the pregnancy chat rooms are a bit on the scary side. The women posting on them seem an awful lot more judgmental than DCUM -- like you might doom your baby to a life of misery if you eat a tuna steak EVER.

I have to say I'm shocked at how few responders had infertility problems. I feel as though most of my friends did! I'm 37 and took 11 mos. to conceive number 1, but I was in active infertility treatment almost that entire time. My two sisters had no issues and got pregnant (6x between them) on the first or second cycle, but I ended up needing injectibles.

The second month we tried. Did the basal body temperature and ovulation sticks.

Five years, two minor surgeries (one each for me and DH), 4 cycles of IUI (follistim), one vanishing twin, and finally my singleton baby. I started TTC when I was 30. Never had a health issue in my life before IF.
