Were those who got pregnant on the first try charting/doing ovulation tests? Or just basing it on the length of your cycle? |
Too long. Many more months than any of the PPs. Only two of my friends conceived on their first try - most of my pg friends took closer to a year. |
12 months (6 of which we used ovulation kits). I am 27. |
It took me 2 years. I started at age 38, and am now 40 yrs old and 31 weeks pregnant. We were TTC but were not tracking anything other than my cycle lengths and trying every other day for several days before and after estimated ovulation date. I did have one miscarriage that occurred about 5 months after we started trying. |
Got pregnant on the first try three times after the age of 35. |
2 months of not preventing and trying to figure out on my own when I ovulated. Used an ovulation kit on the 3rd month, which worked. So, I guess 3 months total. I was 33 when we conceived. |
P.S. In response to a PP, we were not charting or doing anything else special; we just counted the days until ovulation seemed most likely.
Also, I apologize if my post seemed smug. That was not my intent. |
I was one who got pregnant on the first try (well, maybe second try, I guess -- six weeks and one period between giving up birth control and getting a positive test). I was not charting or doing ovulation tests, but I had a very regular cycle (and always have) so I pretty much knew the good days.
I have a lot of friends who got pregnant right away, but most of my friends were in their late 20's/very early 30's. |
I am 28 now. Stopped taking the pill in February (last year), my cycles were back to normal in the next month. Used condoms until August and got pregnant on the 1st try when didn't use condom. We were on vacation...I think its the best time to conceive, cuz you are so relaxed...Good luck!

1 yr to conceive #1 (with 2 miscarriages in there), we used ovulation calculator on the last month and it was a success. Then #2 happened when we were actually trying NOT to get pregnant (low dose pills can be tricky). |
Went off the pill and started trying at age 27 and didn't get pregnant until age 31. Realize I am not the norm. Went through fertility treaments, spent thousands and thousands of dollars and they didn't work. Decided to just give up and found myself pregnant 8 months later.
Happy to have an only child and then found myself pregnant again about 20 months after delivery. I hope it is very easy for you. I don't wish the emotional and physical roller coaster I went through on anyone. If you ever go on the "Trying to Conceive" board you will sadly see I am not alone. |
1st try at 33 years old. I did track the ovulation, but only based on the calendar, and made sure we had sex as much as possible during the probable days of ovulation.

Three months (30 years old) |
with all due respect, i think there is an unusual proportion of 1st try-ers represented in this thread. DH (39) and i (33) are on our 3rd cycle (including charting and OPKs), which everyone has told us is still on the early side. all of the averages are between 3 and 6 months. while i congratulate all of you who got PG so easily, many, many, many women take longer than a month of trying, and you shouldn't feel pressure if it takes you more than the first shot, so to speak. TTC is definitely a roller coaster, and feeling like it should happen right away (which I admit I have done) can make it a lot harder on yourself. bear in mind that you only have a 20-25% chance of conception even with all of the timing right. and good luck! |
1st pregnancy - first try, no ovulation kit. Just counted 14 days (didn't know any better).
2nd pregnancy - about 5 months. I was still nursing and cycles were crazy. After 3 months I got a fertility monitor and got pregnant on the 2nd month. Ended in miscarriage. 3rd pregnancy - first try, using fertility monitor. |
