Please post the reference where someone defended a smokers' right to throw things on the ground. There are posts where people asked WHY they did it and posts where smokers explain why they do it, but I don't see anything here where people are defending their rights to litter . . . I must be missing it. Please post for me. |
Yes, I certainly did and I cringe everytime I see disposable diapers and think of the world we are leaving our children. |
!!!lol!!! You are my hero!!!! |
I live in California and I REALLY resent the disgusting smokers who:
1) throw butts out the car in f*cking July and then wonder why there's so many wildfires 2) Who come to the beach and stink it up for the rest of us or even grosser, leave butts in the sand for us to step on- Thankfully many beaches are now smoke free 3) Drive with their windows open in bumper to bumper traffic so the rest of us have to smell their toxic smoke. It's totally disgusting, it ages you and gives you horrible breath! |
9:18, 10:56, 16:43. Particularly 16:43, who would notice me giving her the stink-eye for smoking and throw her butt down just to...I don't know, prove me right? |
I read those posts you cited . . . and they aren't "Defending their right" to litter. They are explaining why they do this, in response to a DIRECT QUESTION about why they do this. I think this debate is in your head.
If someone came up to you and said "Why are you drinking coffee, caffeine is unhealthy!" and you said "Because it helps me wake up." and then a third person jumped in and proceeded to scream and rant and rave at you because you are soooooooo disgusting and unhealthy and you are defending people's right to use drugs . . . that would be comparable to what you are doing here. If you don't see that, then you are really thick. |
For those who keep comparing smoking with drinking coffee or drinking alcohol or overeating let's remember -- with the possible exception of health care costs -- none of these are habits that impact other people the way smoking does, which is probably why you see more anger directed at smokers. When someone stands next to me all evening drinking beer, guzzling espresso, or eating Krispy Kremes, I don't go home smelling like an ashtray or worrying about the health effects. I think we all understand the concept of addiction but it's when your inability to address your addiction impacts other people's quality of life that they get angry.
And no, this is not the "angry poster". |
Why don't you attack tobacco at its core--tobacco growers, companies and the tobacco lobby that gives hundreds of thousand dollars to members of Congress to keep their subsidies. Mitch McConnel, Senate Minority Leader from KY is a good start. Cigarette/tobacco companies have to make a profit, and as their product ultimately kills, then they have to get new customers every day. Vent your anger where it will do the most good. |
So is Angry Poster's real beef that a smoker actually answered OP's question? Or is she mad OP asked the question in the first place?
You may not have liked the answer, but they were answering a direct question. |
Angry Poster(s) are even tempered because they are angry about everything. I have a sister who is the same and we haven't spoken in years. |
No question that they share some of the blame. |
I can't wait until DC does this:

Part of your problem is that this induces anger in you. Irritation? Understandable reaction. Anger? You have issues. |
Just out of curiosity, where are you standing next to a smoker all night and why don't you just move? Just walk away. It's not like smoking indoors at a restaurant or bar is legal in DC, so you must be outside. Seriously, why don't you just walk away? |
There was also no good reason to drink too much espresso, too much wine, and have too much sex with the hot local guy on the motorcycle on my 3-week trip to Italy. But I'm not sorry. |
