Which School Has the Bigger Perception Problem - Landon or Sidwell?

Anonymous
This is my DS's first year at Landon's upper school and it has been a wonderful experience thus far. I was pretty frighthened going into the school year, partly because of the events over the previous school year. Until early July 2010, I was thinking to let my DS attend Potomac or Prep, the other schools which he was most interested in+got accepted into. However, it seems so far, we made the right decision to stick with Landon. Thus far, it's been a highly disciplined school which seems to have a wide variety of students from top academic scholars to athletic stars. They are also getting drilled on discipline, there seems to be no second chances this year. One mistake, you're out. Sure the school might not be perfect, but I beg to see any perfect school in this whole world. This is MY personal mid year evaluation of my son's Landon experience. Others might disagree or agree with what I have said. To all in the public, don't make a generalization about a certain school if you or your DC have never experienced it, that's a lesson I learned early this Fall.

What about Sidwell? Did they issue an apology to parents over the poem?

The Sidwell detractors are really grasping at straws. Pathetic. Are you seriously saying that one Sidwell kid's tasteless poem (which the school apparently rebuked) is anywhere in the same realm as Landon -- a student body awash with thugs and a long line of scandals from SAT cheating, to sex fantasy leagues, to vandalism of rival schools' turf fields, to MURDER ONE??? A previous poster said it best: Landon and Sidwell aren't in the same orbit.

Just heard the night before the Prep v Gonzaga game a bunch of Gonzaga players painted purple Preps turf field and the stands purple. And they were expelled....anyone?

Get your facts straight. the turf field destruction was gonzaga against gp. Not landon

No, Landon did it too a few years ago after Prep painted Landon's white rocks rocks -- thing is, the rocks can easily be repaired. The turf field, not so much.

"Awash in thugs"?
Hiring pedophiles?
Really?!
The absurd generalizations reflect the complete ignorance some on this site have of these institutions.

Notice how quickly Landon came up in the Dcum Chicago Facebook post.

As much as the Landon community initially circled the wagons whenever these scandals came out, the Sidwell parents have proven equally defensive, if not worse. Sidwell hasn't faced issues as explosive as what Landon has gone through, but the reaction of their community has been abysmal.

I'm neither a Sidwell or a Landon Parent, my DS goes to another "Big 5" School. However, honestly speaking, all of this nasty talk about Sidwell and Landon needs to be put to a rest. Both have had their share of media coverage, good or bad, and they have moved on well. Both schools are highly reputable schools, not only in this area, but throughout the nation. Now please, put this section to a rest.

Landon does not have a good reputation. Locally or nationally.

Right.
Landon has a poor reputation.
That is why so many people like to talk about the school, because we like to discuss poor quality schools.

Last two PPs, what schools do your DC's go to?
