Which School Has the Bigger Perception Problem - Landon or Sidwell?

No, I'm new to this forum (within the last three weeks) and asked the previous question. Was the person actually convicted of child molestation and is now a teacher? |

The teacher was charged with one count of child sex abuse. The victim was a Sidwell student. There was another charge of sex abuse when the teacher was working at Sidwell's summer camp, but unknown if that is the same kid. The teacher pled guilty, registered as a sex offender and got 5 years probabtion. Reportedly, Peterson is charged with sex abuse of a minor and two counts of fourth-degree sex offense. It is alleged that Peterson befriended a male Sidwell student and repeatedly invited him to his Silver Spring home. It is further alleged that Peterson showed the student pornography and touched him inappropriately Following his arrest, Peterson was released on $250,000 bond. Reportedly, Peterson has been on administrative leave since shortly before the beginning of the 2009-10 school year. News reports indicate that Sidwell Friends School, attended by President Obama’s daughters, fired Peterson on January 14th, the same day that charges were officially filed against Peterson. Reportedly, a White House spokesperson has declined to comment on the case. WTOP reports: Peterson also faces charges on the Eastern Shore, where he was the director of Camp Corsica, the school’s summer camp. The charges in Queen Anne’s County stem from an incident last summer. It’s not known whether the victim is the same boy. 08/12/10 – Guilty Plea Reportedly, Robert A. “Pete” Peterson has pleaded guilty to one count of child sex abuse. According to Peterson’s attorney, Peterson will be required to register as a sex offender and abide by other conditions. However, with the approval of the state and the victim’s family no jail time will be imposed. I would like to thank a reader who provided us with info on the conclusion of this case. – webmaster 09/20/10 – Formal Sentencing On Monday, Robert A. “Pete” Peterson was placed on five years of probation for fondling a 15-year-old male student. Peterson is registered as a sex offender and is prohibited from spending time with children without another adult present. If Peterson violates the terms of his probation, he will face up to 15 years in prison. |

| Both school's communities are comfortable in the knowledge that they have great educational experiences for specific types of students. They also strive for self improvement and don't rest on their laurels. With strong academics, they will always have a strong applicant pool. Beyond that, it doesn't matter what people on this thread think. |

| Sidwell and Landon I think are perceived as opposites. With Sidwell being a school that prides academics and liberal thought above all else and Landon being a school that is overly distracted by sports. It's clear to those of us that know a lot about both schools that neither image is accurate. As an outsider, it seems that this flame war is being stoked - it seems by someone within the Landon community. But that's just how it looks from the posts. |

I am not sure how you get from the few posts on this thread that someone from the Landon community is stoking this thread.
As SAM2 said, there are a few people that have bitter Landon/Sidwell feelings and when the numerous Landon/Sidwell threads go away, this person or persons starts up again. As most of the posts have said, both schools are good school, both have had their issues and both are very different. |

| I don't deduce the Landon bashing of Sidwell from just this thread. But multiple threads over the last few months. It's not just this site either, the anti-sidwell stuff is on dc sportsfan too. basically, when someone posts something about Landon, someone immediately bashes Sidwell. I dont't know if they are trying to distract from Landon by bashing Sidwell, which happens to be another school which people also don't like in this area or they personally just don't like Sidwell.. However, it's a pretty clear pattern, but difficult to prove. It just seems that way from an outsider |

What I have noticed is whenever there are threads that talk about issues at Sidwell, the Sidwell boosters seem to always throw in how it is better to be smart than to be (fill in your favorite derogatory jock adjective) at Landon.
Each school has its strong points and its negative points. Both communities need to recognize their weaknesses and work to resolve them. The constant "we are better because: is so tiresome. |

Supporters of Maret/GDS, people who have been rejected by Sidwell and those are resentful of its "liberal elite" status are most likely to revel in Sidwell bashing.
Prep boosters and those who resent Landon's "elite athletic" status are most likely to revel in their bashing. In both cases, its about jealousy. |
