Yeah. City Championship in baseball this year, Washington Post #1 ranking in soccer last year... pretty good for a school where sports are a "joke." |
|
LOL. Typical Sidwell - completely clueless when it comes to sports.
1. DeMatha was ranked #1 in the post, not Sidwell. In fact, DeMatha was ranked #4 in the United States last fall. Both DeMatha and Episcopal were ranked higher than Sidwell last year. 2. The "City Championship" is an EXHIBITION. They beat a terrible Maret team and then beat Wilson HS. Do you really think Sidwell baseball is better than a school like St. John's? Sidwell couldn't even win the mediocre MAC championship. Thanks for the laugh. |
In 2009 Sidwell was ranked #1 in the Washington Post and ended up in the top 50 teams in the nation according to espn. The Congressional Classic is a tournament, not an exhibition. St. John's didn't compete, but they were offered the opportunity. I'm just saying that athletics cannot possibly be labors a "joke" at a school that has had this type of relatively " high profile" success in two of the more mainstream sports available to high-school aged boys in a span of 18 months. Sidwell will never be mistaken for an athletic powerhouse, but let's give credit where credit is due. It is obviously tough for some to swallow. |
Amen. Don't let your unfounded bitterness/dislike for an institution disillusion you from the actual facts. I don't think anyone's saying Sidwell is an athletic power. But it has fielded several very successful teams recently, and credit should be given where credit is due. |
| Sidwell has its prioties and other schools have theirs. Sidwell competes in the MAC, which is totally appropriate place for a school with its values. That's why there are different leagues. Congrats Sidwell on this year's baseball and soccer success. |

well said!
The WCAC tends to focus / emphasize more on athletic competition than they do in the IAC. The IAC puts a greater emphasis on athletics than the MAC. Every single WCAC school, especially Gonzaga and DeMatha, dwarf in enrollment numbers compared to IAC schools. (Prep is the biggest IAC school by 100 or more boys) For the most part, the IAC schools are generally larger schools than the teams in the MAC. Great baseball season this Spring by Sidwell. Do i think Sidwell could compete with Dematha or St. Johns in baseball (maybe if they play there best ball) Can Sidwell compete with Landon, Prep and STA in baseball, YES |
| Sidwell should rejoin the mac and isl |
| You mean IAC? Isn't in the ISL for girls? |
| Sidwell is in the MAC and ISL for girls. It will never rejoin the IAC. That doesn't mean it can't pick up a few games or meets against schools outside the MAC. |

Washington Post 2009 rankings
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-srv/sports/highschools/userrankings/boys_soccer.html 1. Sidwell Friends (13-1-2) 2. Episcopal (18-0-3) 3. Clarksburg (13-1-3) 4. Marriotts Ridge (17-2) 5. Whitman (12-5-2) 6. Gonzaga (14-7-4) 7. DeMatha (20-2) 8. Northern (17-1) 9. Urbana (12-7) 10. Broadneck (14-2-1) Sit down. |
| ``Washington Post #1 ranking in soccer last year'' is the quote from the poster. Probably should have said 2009. |
| I agree with the poster who said Sidwell should only compete in the ISL. |
She said baseball this year, soccer last year, success in the past 18 months. Stop splitting hair. |
| Why is it that EVERY single post on Sidwell and athletics acts as if girls' sports don't exist? Unless it is to make some crack about Sidwell boys competing in a girls league? The total focus on boys' sports is telling. |
| Sidwell would get their a*# handed to them in the IAC. |
