I feel the same. It's not worth it.

I think the opposite. Op is going to get me to stop participating in Democracy. If I want to give, I give

OP here, yes I have done that too. But only with a couple of people who were very sus to me. I don't do that with people who aren't raising red flags in the first place. I did actually discover valuable information while doing that. To be clear, I don't share any of this information outside the home. I accept that I am more paranoid and suspicious of people in general than my spouse is.

Same. Not worth it. Years ago I gave major money to some controversial political causes and did it all via things like Bitcoin and wiring cash via Western Union. I’m not kidding.

I only do that sort of research for people I am paying (tradespeople, lawyer, local business I frequent.) Never do this before 2025, but enough is enough I don't want to pay money to support certain causes.

I don't do this to teachers or coaches, unless I am personally paying the teachers or coaches for a service.

Anyway, yes, I absolutely do this.

I was born and raised here and would never think to do this. I truly don’t care about where people donate their personal funds and respect the rights of people to be different and share different likes and dislikes than I do.

+1

The PP you responded to is a particular type of DC crazy. Not everyone is like that.

I look up federal, state, and local campaign contributions to get an idea of their politics and what kind of people they are since I think people tend to support candidates who are most similar to themselves. I also make a mental note of people who donate to specific candidates vs PACs and political parties. To me, donating to PACs and parties is for the single brain celled, and I often observe that these people are louder with their opinions while being less informed and less intelligent overall.

My spouse says ignorance is bliss in this regard.

What does the DCUM hivemind think? Am I a weirdo for doing this?

Bigotry and narrow-minded person. Only your views matter?

Creepy....it reminds me of Hungary in the 1950's where people would report on neighbors and family to the secret police.

DP. I do this. There's nothing I'm going to do with the information, but I do get curious.

Poor analogy because this information is public and easy to access. How can you secretly report on someone for having a particular political affiliation when literally anyone in the world with an internet connection can see that they donated to WinRed, ActBlue, or whatever?

I am glad I do not live in OP's politicized universe.

We usually vote, but are otherwise apolitical. And we ignore the daily political news. We live in a much happier universe than OP.

OP you’re nosey & messy. Eww

Since this thread appeared, I looked. And, OMG.

Has anyone else considered asking the school to switch their child’s teacher, if they found out she donated to trump?

I have not done this. My spouse and I are mixed - R and D. He has donated to a few R candidates in the past, mostly for work related reasons. That doesn't mean I support those candidates. So not sure what your takeaway would be on our family.

OP would classify you as a Mischling second degree—still straight to the gas chambers with both of you for being married to a traitor if it were up to OP.
